Saw this tonight and is the second show in the Rep’s 2018 programme.
Described as a play with music, overall I thought not a bad production of an iconic film. In this production which is done in the round, I was impressed with both the acting of the company and the accompanying music which help create that anarchic world of Anthony Burgess’s novel. The young lad George Capel who portrays Alex in the show gave in my opinion a very confident performance and was well supported by the other cast members.
The singing overall was fine with no duff notes heard, though none of the cast really stood out for me.
There where a a few comedic moments, though without giving much away to those yet to see this play I don’t want to post too much. There is one particular character that the way they are dressed is identical to a infamous celebrity. The fact that the production has done this shows the great Scouse humour is alive and well and really provided a bit of shock value to the evening.
If you are sat at the back of the stage, be warned. There maybe a few props that get chucked in that direction during the show once they are no longer required. Also a few of the audience members, myself included got a few comments thrown their way. All done in jest mind you, and added to the fun of the evening.
Overall, a good night out, even though the theatre wasn’t full tonight. I was hoping Marc Elliott might have been in it, but sadly he wasn’t. I will probably end up booking for another of the rep shows to catch him.
Programmes cost £1 each and are in a newspaper format. Running time of around 2hrs 20mins including interval.
