This news comes as a pleasant surprise, as I was not overly excited about seeing this in July. Now with Rebel in role I am very much looking forward to the show. A much needed lift I feel. She really has a strong following, which can only mean great things for otherwise disappointing ticket sales until now. I hadn't even considered her for a part in a West End show, and it now makes me wonder whether she will make an appearance in Cinderella at the Palladium? She would certainly be a big draw, especially if her G&D run is a success. Yes she'll certainly be a big draw. Considering she's only doing 8 weeks, they must have another star up their sleeves to keep people going to the show as they've extended by 3 months.

I can see this working very well. I am not a fan, particularly, but may have to book again. Which is the whole point of this casting.

Well the casting seems to be having the desired effect. My mum and I walked past the Phoenix recently and she explained that she's not a fan of the show and had no desire to see it. After I texted her about Wilson's casting she immediately responded with a plea to buy tickets.

I agree, it's some impressive and confident casting - even if I'm not a big fan of her's myself.

Of course, one thing no one has yet mentioned on here is her turn as Ursula in The Little Mermaid from June 3 through June 6 at the Hollywood Bowl. This will be a great way for everyone to see just how much of a stage presence she can be ahead of her run in Guys & Dolls. I also wouldn't be surprised to see her extend her run by a month or two. I don't know why I have that feeling but you never know.

Has she ever done a convincing accent?

Has she ever done a convincing accent? I was thinking this earlier, I cannot even begin to imagine what she is gonna sound like from an accent perspective! Let alone a singing, dancing or acting perspective. Still buzzing though!

Also, much as I love this casting and I hope they surprise us again once Rebel leaves, I hope this isn't gonna be one of those shows that sticks around for ages. It is a fine production but with so many shows wanting a theatre, this is one I will happily see go before some others. Once Rebel leaves, of course!

I suspect ATG has something planned for the Phoenix for 2017 hence why G&D only extended three more months. It's done well considering it was only meant to be a limited run at the Savoy.

Very true, it has done very well indeed to be running from a limited three month run at the Savoy to over a year long (if it runs to its closing date).
And I don't mean to sound as though I am bashing it, I enjoyed it.

I can't find any evidence to suggest that it has extended. The calendar on the show's website only goes as far as October, as does ATG tickets. Where did the news of the extension originally get reported?

Yes I totally agree. I think ATG have a production waiting in the wings for the Phoenix. The production probably is going there in 2017 and ATG didn't want the theatre dark over Christmas so it's probably why they just filled the gap.

I just wish Once was still there but that's just me. I did love that show.

Once was amazing... whatever happened to those tour rumours? As for Rebel Wilson, I'm not a fan of her personally (I find that she always seems to be playing herself - but maybe that's just her persona in public.) but this is quite inspired casting, and will definitely get a younger audience in to see the show.

I've just been to see the tour in Leeds tonight and I have to say I really enjoyed it, more than I thought I might actually. They have a really great cast. I was wondering if anyone knows who is playing Miss Adelaide now instead of Louise Dearman. I didn't buy a programme and didn't see a cast board. Whoever it was, she was fab.

Just seen the tour in Leeds. Why the westend having chosen to have Rebel Wilson when Lucy is beyond capable of doing it is beyond me!
