This is the latest film from the director of 2014's Leviathan, has been nominated for many awards and won the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2017.
Loveless is about a warring couple who are divorcing, the lives they have already established with their new partners and their only son, who runs away as neither parent appears to want him. As you might expect if you know the director's work, it's very long and bleak (set in a wintry landscape, so just the thing for February), yet quite compelling as it takes its time to explore the various relationships and the effect on them of the young boy's disappearance.
All the main characters seemed unsympathetic to me, though their motivation was clear; in fact those who appeared in the best light were the Police and volunteers who were trying to find the missing boy. Worth seeing but I probably shouldn't have followed it with 2 other events which were also fairly grim as it made for a pretty depressing day overall.
