I have never quite got the rushed score thing. SO many people mention it; but I do think it's a perception of the orchestrations. As long as I can remember (at least 20 years), both the West End and the tour finish at 22:20 plus or minus 5 mins - this has never changed! So it really can't have sped up that much.... The West End production is stated as 2hr 50 minutes including a 15 minute interval whilst the tour (according to Birmingham Hippo website) is quoted as approximately 3hrs including interval. I was out of the Palace at 10.20pm which would have made it 2hrs 50. It does feel speeded up on the tour, Cosette sounds almost like one of the Chipmunks, but comparing the running time suggests otherwise. The scene transitions maybe add to the tours running time without having the benefit of the revolve but it’s not anything I’d noticed. |

Bringing on and then removing all the cast-off scenery from Oliver! does slow the tour version down somewhat.

There is the addition of some of the score and incidental music from the movie in the touring production, whilst some bits from the original have been cut which probably creates an imbalance in timing and impacts on the tempo of songs.

So I might have news about the final performance. Creatives WILL come in and make speeches, including the original directors, etc. Champagne will be passed to the patrons. It will be filmed for archival purposes but not for commercial release.

Penultimate trip last night - great as usual - though I had a huge punter in front of me blocking the view a bit and must have had ants in his pants as never seen so much fidgeting; also had an incredibly loud cough!
Anyway, audience 95% tourists - I had thought by this stage a few more of the hardcore fans would be in! I guess we are Summer holidays now though.
I did reflect that the theatre is indeed badly in need of the refurb. It's grotty, cramped, over crowded. And the toilets are awful! Thing is I imagine post refurb it will LOOK nicer, but be just as cramped. I'd love to see Les Mis at a nicer theatre really.

I would hope that they're increasing bathroom capacity - I went a few months back and 2 ladies toilets for the entire dress circle was not ideal! |

I'm surprised Cameron wants to keep Les Mis at the Queens rather than move it and have a new show reopen the theatre. That's what I thought he would do years ago, put the tour in The Novello (in my mind, not sure what sense it makes) and open it immediately after closing at the Queens to keep the longest running show (not production  ) title. |

Saw it last night to say "goodbye" to the original production - and found that it has already left. First time I've ever seen Miz (film included) and not come even close to tears at the end. A few decent performances - Thernadier, Gavroche, Marius, Eponine, Cosette - but last time I checked, the show was a "pop opera" that was SUNG through. Why they think speaking some of it heightens the emotion I don't know, and as others on here said, the speed of the thing. They got "On My Own" down to about 1 minute 30. And they don't keep still - wandering about and emoting all over the stage instead of staying put and thinking about it. On the plus side, I now don't mind the old show is going, as it appears to have died many moons ago and doesn't deserve this current humiliation. Oh man. I'm going tonight for my "goodbye"! Was keen to see Dean Chisnall and Bradley Jaden before they leave (or move roles again, in the latter's case). |

It's a bit odd to call the restaged one "new" when it's already a decade old! If Cameron really wanted to breathe new life into the show, he'd produce a brand new production.
I'll be there at the last performance tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

I can't believe there are only 2 shows left!
I never got to see the production at the Barbican or Palace but have seen the late 90's and 'new' tour and at Queens a few times and am glad I get to say goodbye tomorrow night.
