An interesting mix of people. Is anyone in the current cast staying?
The big announcement we're still waiting for is the new Margaret.

Any idea who the new alternate or understudy Jamie is ? Think Layton is doing all performances so no alternate but not sure about understudy. Overall, good cast. Would like to see Momar as one of the drag queens - sure Kinky Boots helped him get that role. Wonder what happened with the Denise rumour then. Think Hayley willl be good anyway

Wonder if Melissa Jacques will stay as cover for Margaret, Ray and Miss Hedge? I thought she was outstanding as Margaret.

It's the first British musical since Matilda that has really been a hit. And as of now, they are using stars where necessary but they have chosen people who actually have talent (unlike the stunt casting in Chicago). Does Shane Ritchie have it in him?

It's great to see it be such a hit! I doubt it will have as long a run or the level of success Matilda has and continues to have, especially because of the theatre it is in, as the Apollo is popular for limited runs of plays etc, especially with stars and is prime real estate for shows. I do fear that there will be a predicted huge hit limited run and that will buy out the success of Jamie and go in at some point in the next year or two.

May be wrong, but I think he started as a performer in clubs etc before he did Grease and moved into television. Unless he has lost that skill I see no reason why he wouldn’t be decent enough.

That's not true, Sunny Afternoon ran for two years and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ran 3 and a half years and both are homegrown musicals

I’ve seen Hayley in a couple of musicals and she’s very good.
Proper northern actress. Good.
I’ve taken a huge dislike to Michelle Visage. Glad she’s leaving.

Jordan Cunningham is leaving too and he was the other cover Jamie so I'm presuming there's 2 new Jamie covers replacing ? Unless they've decided they only need 1 since Jordan never went on.

I’m a regular theatregoer and I’ve just left this show at the interval - which I’ve only ever done once before for the God awful Mary Poppins many years ago in Edinburgh. Despite Jamie supposedly being about relationships of many types, tolerance, an uplifting journey, I thought what I saw tonight was emotionally vacant.
It’s such a shame, as I was really looking forward to Jamie and was v pleased when I found out that all the principal cast were on tonight - John, Michelle, Shobna etc. They are a talented cast (apart maybe from Michelle’s dodgy Sheffield/American accent) but I just couldn’t buy into the relationships between the characters or find myself caring what happened to any of them - Jamie, Jamie’s mum, the mums funny friend played more like a panto, the dad and especially Hugo and his fellow drag queens. I just didn’t care and so the show didn’t pull me in at all. It’s weird because I usually like this genre of show.
That said, I can appreciate why others would find the show great, but it just wasn’t for me, well not tonight anyway. Has anyone else seen Jamie and felt the same? Is there something wrong with me or with the show? I can’t decide, as I write this, when I should in fact be watching the second act!

I first saw "Jamie" in Sheffield almost two years ago and if I hadn't been booked on a train back to London the following morning I would have immediately purchased a ticket for the next performance. I loved it that much and predicted to my wife it would come to London and be a huge hit when I got home. I've since seen it four times in London and will be going again to see the new cast shortly. So yes I think you are in a very small minority on that one. Ditto Mary Poppins !
I must admit I just want to be entertained when I go to musical theatre and have little interest in underlying themes,if any, whatever they may be. That's why I never attend serious plays. As for leaving at the interval I can only think of one occasion I was tempted to do that (Last night A DJ Saved My Life at Wimbledon in 2016) but I resisted because having paid my money I'd rather see it through than walk out mid point.

Thanks Paul26. I thought I would be in the minority’s with my initial view of the show. I can only think that it must have been me having an off night, rather than the cast of Jamie! I’m glad you enjoyed the show so much.

I definitely didn't love it first time I saw it. I thought it was good, but overrated af.
Then watched the filmed performance and started listening to the LCR, and started to appreciate it more and more. Would I pay to see it again? Probably.

That's not true, Sunny Afternoon ran for two years and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ran 3 and a half years and both are homegrown musicals I always forget that Charlie was a British musical..thanks for pointing that out. I really liked that show in London and so sad they ruined it on Broadway. Sunny Afternoon though really wasn't my cup of tea. Nica owns the theater though so she doesn't have to pay rent to herself so she can probably run Jamie as long as she wants, provided its at least breaking even. It seems to be doing much, much better than that...
