How’s Michelle’s accent coming along? Any improvement yet? Or is she still just saying “Jermy”.

How’s Michelle’s accent coming along? Any improvement yet? Or is she still just saying “Jermy”. It was OK last night - though her American accent did come in on occasion. She started Work of Art slightly too quickly as well (the band basically stopped except the drums until the chorus when they came back in) - but other than that, she was really good. Very convincing as the mean teacher - loved her in the last scene outside the prom.

I have heard murmurings that Jordan Cunningham will be the new Jamie Alternate, which is why he has been bumped up to Understudy Jamie. Baz reports that Rebecca McGinnis is staying on and that they’ll have a black father. Interesting. There are probably some attempts to make this look like a plausible real family on stage (as opposed to complete ethnicity blind casting). That decision makes sense to me. Given the show deals with race/ethnicity in other ways, it makes sense to do it consciously rather than totally ethnically blind. Also without changing anything as written, a mixed race boy doing drag adds another dimension to the show. (funny enough I saw another play that dealt with that last night- Tuck up here in Cardiff, and Lewis Brown who was in that would also make an excellent Jamie)

Interesting. And I love the fact that we'll see a black boy play a black boy and not just going with colorblind casting. This, with the way they've recently cast Waitress across the pond is bold and making quite a statement.

I used to love Layton so much! But he was bullying Luke Bayer with Luke Baker and it was so nasty! I’m kinda fallen out of love and not sure I want to see him on stage after that. Although it might me my loss, not his. As he is an excellent performer...

Then, Layton commented on it with a laughing face emoji and something like “OMG Hahahaha. So funny” something really underhand and sly. Just really unnecessary. The whole situation was disgusting. I’m glad I think this show is a pile of crap. Hopefully it will close soon and something of actual quality goes in.

The whole situation, actually, was a storm in a tea cup that people got far too worked up about without really knowing anything about it. I couldn't really understand people getting so worked up and offended on somebody's behalf that they didn't even know. The B word is used far too loosely.

This kind of thing should be highlighted and not brushed under the carpet. I never realised that bullying happened in, what seems like, a wonderfully accepting industry. But I reckon this kind of thing happens within casts all over, and it’s totally unacceptable. The more people say “oh it’s not a big deal”, the more people are normalising this kind of behaviour. It shouldn’t be ok. Personally, I’m shocked that Luke Baker is still working. Juvenile boy.

Just really unnecessary. The whole situation was disgusting. I’m glad I think this show is a pile of crap. Hopefully it will close soon and something of actual quality goes in. What tweet? To cut a long story short, Luke Bayer is clearly very excited about the confirmation of DEH coming to the West End. And reposted a video clip of him singing “Waving Through a Window” and he never asked for all of the attention, but a lot of people started retweeting the video and saying how he’d be great in the role and he was very appreciative of all the messages. Not hurting a soul. Then, Luke Baker, who is in the same cast of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie as Bayer, made an indirect comment about the situation something along the lines of “Are auditions happening on Twitter now?” Very catty, very snide. Everyone knew who he was talking about. I think he was trying to, very underhandly, take the mick out of Bayer but he’s just ended up making himself look like a complete tit. I’m just disgusted that this kind of behaviour exists within a cast of a West End show?! They should be lifting each other up and supporting one another, right? Or if they can’t do that, just keep their mouths shut? Personally, I don’t believe someone who is that childish, deserves to work in such a prestigious place.

Because i'm pretty sure there wouldn't be anything in his contract that made him agree with everything his colleagues do, that's probably why he's still in a job. But i really think that with casting news and the show continuing to do well against expectation, there are more relevant things to be talking about on this thread rather than this from a month ago.

Again, you’re wrong. I reckon there’s absolutely a clause in his contract to not defame another cast member. I just can’t wrap my head around your response.

Do all of you get on with everyone you work with? probably not. But also we don't know the wider context. It could be all part of, what I believe the kids call 'Banter' between people who know each other better than we know any of them.
Also it's easy enough to put something in writing on social media that's either ill thought out or ill constructed. I don't think we should be naming Layton as a horrible person based on one reply to one tweet. Also that we should be crying for a show to close or people not get jobs because of it.

With cast changes I don't see a long run for this show. TBF I don't think it was ever destined to become the next Wicked or Phantom but I think it'll hit the 2 year mark.

Oh Layton will be fantastic, and great for him to have a lead part. I've followed him since his extraordinary solo in Matthew Bourne's Lord of the Flies, and various others, and what energy he had in Hairspray. A great performer.

Although I'm going to see it, I didn't realise that Layton Williams is appearing in Kiss Me, Kate at the world-famous Crucible Theatre over Christmas.
That runs until 12 January 2019, so I assume he'll be going from that, straight into rehearsals for this. I hope he's been able to take a proper holiday before Kate rehearsals start imminently!
