Was at the two play day yesterday, an extraordinary days theatre, on the whole a tremendous production.
The poignancy of the finale of Part 1 was off the scale and cast a shadow over Part 2 which it never quite managed to cast aside.
Have decided to see the transfer, the publicised editing could could make it exceptional. (I would personally remove the Trump/Clinton politics as I found it unnecessary and a distraction in the context of the play and did not really add anything to the arc)
Obviously whatever edits are made, when discussing it with people who will have only seen the West End transfer, will have to state that the Young Vic production was the definitive version. 😉

So long as Kyle Soller wins the Olivier next year I don't care how much they charge for tickets when it transfers to London's glitzy West End.

Ok I caved. I bought an aisle seat on the back row of the royal circle for the current last day (5th Jan). I understand the legroom is great as there are no seats in front of the very end seats. The discount didn’t apply last night when I bought them, but a quick correspondence with DMT today has soon put that right. In case people were wondering, it’s not £20 off per part, but rather £20 off per pair of tickets (for one and two bought together).

Tonight after 55 minutes there was power outage To the lighting equipment. Brought us back into the theatre after a one hour wait only to be told that the show was cancelled. Many gutted theatre patrons. Audience asked if the cast could be brought back on stage and proceeded to give them a raptous ovation. Needless to say there will many returns for Part 2 tomorrow night. How lucky am I that I never returned my ticket for Saturday.

On Tuesday evening I've noticed Luke Thallon being a bit too emotional and even shaken by the end of the play, then a friend told me that he's the only cast member not doing the West End run, which is a pity. Maybe he's feeling too emotional with the run at the Old Vic coming to an end.

I have just seen part 2 this week and could not see part 1 for a stack of reasons.....
Could someone explain for me what did I miss with the towel dropping scene mentioned in this threat? Was it just a quick flash to the audience?

Was it just a quick flash to the audience? Oh I have had a giggle at 'towel dropping mentioned in this threat' excellent typo! It was a bit more than a quick flash! Someone else help me out with actor/character names but basically he comes out of 'the shower' in a towel, and soon after drops the towel and stands naked for quite some time (by which I'm talking a minute maybe, not like an hour) Depending on your view of penises, and I assume where you're sitting it still could be mildly threatening.

Did we ever decide {Spoiler - click to view} where all the characters at the end of part 1 come from? Are they paid actors? What do they do for the whole show up until then?

Surely they are the understudies. It's pretty common for them to be used on stage - the NT often have shows with a dozen actors milling about in the background or only appearing in one scene

Community chorus, I don't know if there's any financial restitution involved though.

Community chorus, so volunteers essentially. Probably paid travel expenses plus a meal allowance.

Thanks for telling me - and is there more nudity in the play? The end of part 1 - is there a group nude scene then? Did we ever decide {Spoiler - click to view} where all the characters at the end of part 1 come from? Are they paid actors? What do they do for the whole show up until then?

That’s the only nudity! The end of part 1 is a wonderful emotional surprise...I or someone else can answer in spoiler tags if you want to know

Don't get too excited about the nudity - it's there to make a point, not to titillate. Most of the explicitly sexual material is described, not seen.

I keep hearing that I should have seen this at the Young Vic, but when it was first announced as a two parter, the thought of investing in two lots of tickets when I might not even like Part One seemed a bit of a no-no. The last time I made that mistake was for the RSC’s Nickleby...
But now, thanks to the reviews, I’d like to see it. Them.
Gone are the days when I could sit anywhere in a theatre and actually hear what the actors were saying. So stalls it is. But rows A-D are currently off sale. “They might be day seats”. Apparently. Rows E and F are regular stalls prices (not cheap) while everything else back to Row P is “Premium”. I don’t like to bang on about ticket pricing but, to me, this seems greedy. I hear there’s no set/scenery to speak of, there are no live musicians. A smallish cast... So what’s making it so expensive?
I keep checking the DM website. Plenty of availability still; I’m not fooled by the DM trick of holding seats back on the seating plans thereby giving the impression they’ve shifted loads.
I wish it well, but at the same time, if someone High Up starts saying, “I thought it’d sell better than it has done so far...” they won’t have to scratch their heads too much to come up with the reason.

Had H6 in my basket for Nov 10th 2 play day but 2nd guessing myself wondering if I should spring for pricier seats. Loved royal D4 for Half a Six-Pence but it is certainly more expensive for these plays. I really like the idea of H6 with legroom and being on aisle.

Just learned that Andrew Burnap is a fellow Rhode Islander. And he just graduated from University of Rhode Island in 2013. So young to have come this far in his career already.

I'm sorry if this has been asked so many times. For the run time on Part 1 it says "3 hours 15 min with 2 intervals". I never can figure out if that means that run time includes the 2 intervals or if it is really 3 hours 15 min and then add on the 2 intervals?

Any early buzz about a New York transfer? No buzz yet, but it's due there in March/April for Tony voter time.

Booked for this. Read about male nudity and thought "I'm in". Just kidding, I've heard it's a really good play.
