Hello all. I really hope everyone is having a great festive season. I have been curious about this so thought it may be worth starting a new thread. I have recently seen Dick Whittington in London and Sleeping Beauty in Glasgow. Both are Qdos pantos which use The Twins FX for a similar flying vehicle illusion before the interval. I have found these to be very cool (depending on where you are sitting) but do know the obvious method to pull off the effect. Does anybody know how the 'Fanny the Wonderbike' effect is achieved? Is this in a similar way? And Amanda Holden appearing to fly wireless!? I'm very interested.

From my seat in the upper circle (once my eyes had adjusted) I could see the arm and the crew moving it from side to side. It’s a very cool effect though. I have a feeling they are all pretty much done the same way - Just with different set pieces attached to the various crane arms

The range of movement seems similar on all of those flying stunts ((judging by Twins FX showreel), and they all use the blackout and lights technique to distract the eye. The one where the magic carpet flips upside down is impressive though, if only for the bravery of the actors.
I would have loved to see the Lord Of The Rings Musical for the effects.

As said above, they're all on the arm, controlled by crew on stage, combined with the lighting effects to distract the audience. The 360 degree barrel-rolling flying carpet/motorbike that they use is seriously awesome. Same concept, it's still on an arm, with some magical mechanical wizardry to make it do the roll
