What are people's views on this, I can remember seeing one or two of them at school and finding them a bit cheap looking but that was looking with teenage eyes. Interested to hear if people think thus is a set worth buying now.

There are some great performances and some shocking productions. It is very much a mixed bag. Useful as a near complete collection of the plays with some great actors. But they are very dated now - both in terms of design/production values and the style of acting.
My guess is the RSC are hoping that their new DVDs will build up into a rival collection - and that, again, will be a flawed package.
In many ways, the audio recordings by Arkangel might be worth exploring as an alternative. You can revel in the words without being distracted by the dated visuals.

There are some fantastic adaptations in this set alongside some oddities. For the time it was ground-breaking and some casting looks curious but worked well.
