That was a joke. Our candidate cities were Leeds, Dundee, Nottingham, Milton Keynes and Belfast/Derry. Yes it was a joke. My joke. And not a very good one really... Apologies hulmeman . I was trying to come up with five ridiculously unlikely places that could be called a Capital of Culture. Funnily enough, Milton Keynes was on my original list of five but I replaced it at the last minute with Basingstoke. Oh yes very funny Mr Caiaphas, I hope you are laughing when I'm in hospital with a stroke from ranting. Not that I'm ever prone to exaggeration of course!

Rhyl? Rhyl? Rhyl? It's not even the north Wales coastal city of culture never mind the European city of culture!!! Absolutely!! It is however, the home town of Kane Oliver Parry and Rebecca Trehern apparently.

And Ruth Ellis. Don’t forget Ruth Ellis.
Now there’s a story.
(Dance With A Stranger- one of my favourite films of all time, with Miranda Richardson and Rupert Everett... and you can still see the gunshot damage on the exterior tiles of the Magdala Tavern, Hampstead.)
And another macabre (Rhyl) story... James Hanratty’s alibi: he was in Rhyl the night of the A6 murder. (Now misproven thanks to DNA.)
Who thought Rhyl was quiet?

Who thought Rhyl was quiet? Every Sheffield United supporter knows that Rhyl is anything but quiet, especially at the weekend.

What does the ‘European City of Culture’ actually mean. If you surround yourself with culture like many of us do, then the term seems very redundant.

Sinners Club gig theatre is at Soho Upstairs throughout December.
