Six the Musical - Arts / Lyric / Vaudeville

Btw is this really a musical though? Based on what I've seen it looks more like a concert. So it would fall under the 'entertainment' category right? Kind of like Five Guys Named Moe last year.

Well I finally got to see this tonight (after the “slippery stage” incident last month) and absolutely loved it.

First of all thanks to Theatreboard as I won the pair of tickets in the draw and it’s been a bit of a hassle for the mods given that my first attendance terminated early and the mods had to rearrange with the promoters. But I’m so glad they did. (And this probably wasn’t the sort of show I’d have booked otherwise)

Yesterday I sat through 7 hours of The Inheritance and that was magical, wonderful and moving. Tonight, something totally different, a sharp 75 minutes of sass, amazing performances and great music. If I had to sum up the vibrancy of the London theatre scene I couldn’t have done better than point to these two shows, utterly different but both genius in their own way.

What really made tonight’s show was the enthusiastic audience, yes it is more concert in style but the facts are all there and the lyrics are whipsmart, but I can’t get away from the energy of these six amazing performers (and their ladies in waiting) who gave everyone such an amazing night.

Seeing the Sunday matinee with Being Alive and Rukaya and can’t wait!!!!!

Can anyone explain the cast history of this?

I know it started at Cambridge University, but did that cast go with the show to Edinburgh? When did they switch to the professional cast?

And has there been two professional casts? I'm fairly sure the singers on the album are different to the ones I saw at the Arts.

The first time it went to the Fringe was with the MT Society, can't find a cast list sadly. Then when it went to the Arts last Dec/Jan for the workshop performances it was with a professional cast (Renee Lamb, Christina Modestou, Natalie Paris, Genesis Lynea, Aimie Atkinson, Izuka Hoyle) and that's the team that are on the studio recording, and now we're on the 3rd cast of Six effectively, with Natalie and Aimie being the Queens that continued with the show  

Correct! I know, it must be kind of sad for them. But saying that, I believe the original Catherine of Aragon performed at the cabaret Grace (Six's swing) did last week and even said beforehand that performing wasn't something she did professionally, so maybe it was a case of it all being more of a hobby for them? Who knows! 

Good god, thank the lord they got a Costume Designer and a budget to sort those costumes out. 😂😂

Renee Lamb also does a really hilarious Jessie J homage in the last chorus of No Way - sounds something like, "N-n-n-n-n-n-n-!"

Ugh. The more I read/hear/see about this show, the more gutted I feel about missing this.

Slow to engage me but in due course I really enjoyed this in Kingston yesterday, even if it was a bit like a flashback to an extended 70's edition of Top Of The Pops but with witty, knowing lyrics.

And how amazing (and wonderful) to see the theatre full for the first time I can ever recall in all my years visiting the Rose, and a previously-unseen (by me anyway) audience: so many young, lively eager people. They even filled that awkward cushion seating area between the stage and the first row of seats, which certainly added to the atmosphere. The evening there certainly made up for my dire afternoon at Trial By Laughter in Guildford- and reader, I even bought the CD - that's how impressed I was.
