Oh, I like them all individually. It's the lack of chemistry that gets at me.

Pretty much the only Les Mis recording I listen to now is the 25th Anniversary live cast recording (with JOJ as JVJ). I find it has a lot of atmosphere, it's gritty and loud and I quite enjoy listening to the new orchestrations being played live as opposed to recorded in a studio. In the same vain, I much prefer a live cast recording (when it's done well) as you get an authentic emotional vocal performance of an actor playing that role in real-time and in situ rather than trying to replicate it in a recording studio and possibly out of show sequence. I think it's also vocally fantastic and quite thrilling - the closest thing to seeing it live!
I find I simply can't listen to the OLC anymore, it's so mind-numbingly slow!!

I agree that it is a great recording, but can't get on with Eponine's soul girl 'On My Own'. It reminded me of when Partridge ruined 'Bui Doi' on the first 'Miss Saigon' tour. Feel free to interpret, but don't reinvent!

I thought Alfie Boe was JVJ for the 25th recording? I do agree though, that is probably my go to recording of Les Mis.

Feel free to interpret, but don't reinvent! Ah yes, I concede that. 100% agree with "interpret, don't reinvent". I'm not a massive Les Mis purist but I think the blues riff in OMO is a step too far!! I absolutely hate Bui Doi now (the version as done by Hugh Maynard). The riffing all but destroys any meaning and emotion behind the song. Peter Polycarpou all the way for me!!

^ It's officially out on iTunes now. Just pumped it into my iPhone and off on a walk to listen to it.

Relistening to Glenn Close's Sunset Boulevard cast recording. It's like an orgy in my ears!

I just finished listening to Bright Star. Beautiful melodies and Carmen Cusak is amazing on this.

First (and best) track from "Waitress" (She Used To Be Mine) now released on iTunes.

Early release of the Waitress cast recording is now floating online. It has its good moments but really only when Jenna sings. I think I may need a few more listens. Jesse sounds wonderful, and I was thinking that if this should last, Sara B should replace Jesse when she leaves and mark her Broadway debut as composer and performer.

This also just came out and it's so much fun and full of great showtunes and banter. Skinner's voice is sublime, Ripley is fun but that vibratto is a bit disturbing. Highly recommended.

Not sure how many people would agree with me, but I think it would be great if the National released some sort of recording of the current Threepenny Opera translation by Simon Stephens. Not sure how likely it is, I saw it a couple of months ago and liked it but would love to listen to some of the lyrics again (which of course differ from other recordings and productions).
And hopefully a Groundhog Day album would be great. I'm not seeing the show for another 2 weeks but I know I'll just love it because of Tim Minchin!

Of recent shows I have seen, I would love Groundhog Day and Titanic. Also wouldn't say no to a recording of In the Heights either...

I'm bumping this thread cause I saw some videos from American Psycho and I was wondering if there is a cast recording? I'm obsessed with a few songs (and Benjamin Walker's shirtlessness).
Sorry if this has been asked before. I'll admit I didn't read every post.

There is but a London cast recording. But BW also has a track or two that have been recorded.
