Are we tired of waiting for this? It’s found a distributor and is slated for release “some time in 2019”.
I wonder if it’s not very good...
Liza cerainly isn’t happy about the whole thing.

I thought there was a thread for this but apparently not, if I've missed it feel free to move. Anywho, teaser trailer has been released and it looks beautiful and Renée sounds amazing!

Rupert Goold was on BBC Breakfast this very morning talking about Judy.
They showed the trailer, which was billed as 'exclusive'. Wasn't that exclusive if it can be viewed anytime on YouTube!
The much praised Jessie Buckley plays what we would now call Ms Garland's PA.
Release date 4 October.

Not really impressed by the trailer so far hoping this is as good as the stage version .... but wait no tracie Bennett so it can’t be .... really not liking over the rainbow vocals either 🤔

It looks nice and glossy. To be honest, I don't think there was a better Judy Garland on screen (other than Judy herself of course) than Judy Davis.

Saw a preview today... won't say too much but I thought Zellwegger was pretty sensational if I'm honest. Jessie Buckley also puts in a great perf as ever. IT may not be the Judy vocal we got from Tracie Bennett, but my god the performance is there in spades.

Looks good. All I remember of her in real life is that my parents saw her and raved. She was a real favourite, charisma and then some.

Is this a film version of the play Over the Rainbow or does it just cover the same period of her life?

Adaptation of OTR I believe from what I've read (admittedly that's mostly Wikipedia!)

Anyone else been to see this yet?
I was so looking forward to it but it became a major disappointment.
While based on the wonderful play ‘End Of The Rainbow’ the film bares little resemblance and the only link between the two is they are both set at the same point in Judy’s career.
I have ready many biographies over the years and the woman was a much more complex person than this film puts across.
The tv mini series ‘Me & My Shadows’, based on the memoirs of Lorna Luft, is a much better insight into the ups and downs Judy’s life and career.
Renée Zelwegger is no patch on Tracy Bennet or Caroline O’Connors interpretations of Judy. Even the musical performances fail to encapsulate Judy’s persona.

Thank god it’s not just me then we’ll me my dad and partner went opening night after the hype and excitement after seeing end of the rainbow 7 times from Northampton to west end ..... almost un recognisable I found judy very slow And all the best relationship s and humour cut .... although a good actress renne I felt like she was thinking about every nuance and movement ... she didn’t just be and live it like Tracie Bennett did .... and 8 shows a week I might add and all the fuss about the vocals could have been my auntie vi singing let alone judy good voiice but no power sadly came out thinking it was ok but could and should have been so much more

I'm seeing it today and was looking forward to it so am not sure what to expect now. However, heresy as this may be, I am not that interested in Judy Garland and have had enough of stage shows about her; instead I was hoping simply for an engaging and well-made film. Which this may nevertheless be and if I really don't like it, I have matinee and evening shows to follow.

I have quite the opposite opinion - I really enjoyed this and thought Renee Zellweger was brilliant as Judy Garland. It's the best leading performance by an actress I've seen this year and would not surprised if she gets awards for it.

It’s really a case of each to there own isn’t it. 😀 I really wanted to love it after seeing the play so many times but it’s so different to the play . And Renee just annoyed me she was playing judy you could see her brain working right arm here hand here curl my lip and pout. Etc and the vocals just aren’t strong enough I suppose if u never saw judy live at that time or watched her performances and films it’s an easy watch and I can see would enjoy it. 👍

Enjoyed this but not as much as the play. It also dragged a bit for me. Nice to see some MT people on it like Jessie Buckley and Andy Nyman. Anyone recognise the theatre they used? Looked a bit like Wyndhams or Noel Coward from outside. Just a small point but when Judy was in the rehearsal room she asked how many levels there were at Talk of the Town and was told 4 but when the camera was on the stage looking at the audience I could only see 3.

The box office bit was definitely the Noël Coward. Renee Zellweger I thought was excellent! I liked the movie as a whole too, and agree with others that she could win some awards for this.

I really enjoyed this film. At times it did feel a bit difficult to watch, as I just felt so sad for Judy and knowing her backstory how she was treated by the studios etc. Renee gave an excellent performance and I hope to see her nominated for some awards. Some solid performances in the supporting cast too from Jessie Buckley and Rufus Sewell. According to imdb the interior venue scenes were filmed at Hackney Empire.

One Sunday last Autumn we walked in the Alley behind Wyndhams and saw them dressing for the scene where she meets fans - shown on Graham Norton last week. I mentioned this to a friend who told me they'd been filming inside The Hackney Empire all week. Not proof but...
