The King and I (with Kelli O'Hara)

I'm surprised no one has said the Barbican , following the same pattern as they did with South Pacific. If it's touring then a limited run makes sense,especially with kelly in the lead just for the barbican run (again like South Pacific). I can't see The King and I sustaining a commercial west end run without a big star name

I saw it on broadway and thought it was a stunning production but I don't get the love for Kelly at all. She was ok but kind of bland. Ken as the king however was electrifying

She is the only reason to see it. Her aside its a very flat and uninspired production.

I think it would flop here anyway. It will have big running costs,and as much as we all love OHara- she won't get Joe public in over here. Only show queens know who she is.

Where could it of gone though, that's the question? ATG were producing it so around 60% chance of it going to their venue(s). Lots of shows are lining up for transfers next year and maybe they thought King & I wouldn't do that well or there was no theatres? Maybe not many people signed up to the waiting list so they thought there wasn't much hype for it?

I feel like I am the only one who wasn't really excited for this. I am sure it is a great production but I was never really excited, it was never on my list of things to see etc. Kelli was, as said previously, the only real draw for me.

Yep, saw it last August. Can't say it particularly wowed me, not an enormous loss from my perspective. For this production, it seemed VERY tailored to the Lincoln Center (I can't imagine any London theatre being capable to pull off the ship effect for those that saw it) and as such a transfer whilst still retaining the character of this production would be difficult.
