Baz has responded to a tweet saying the transfer is definately happening with Kelli, but no dates confirmed as of yet.  |

Now this is exciting! I adore THE KING AND I, and have been wanting to see Kelli O'Hara on stage for a long time. This production sounds ravishing as well.

Her replacement on Broadway is Marin Mazzie who is in remission from her battle with cancer. Should be an amazing and very emotional series of performances.

From the cast recording and the clips, I actually thought the recent revival was all about Ken Watanabe myself although sadly I imagine he won't be transferring any time soon :-( When he says "come" in 'Shall We Dance?', it's one of the most spine-tingly thrilling things around. Kelli O'Hara was very Elaine Paige I thought, especially in some of the spoken parts.
Still look forward to this transferring though.

I wonder how big the orchestra will be. When it was last in the Palladium there were about 25; a whole string section, lots of wind and brass, two percussionists, harp. When it went on tour it was reduced to 14 then half way through the tour it was reduced further, to about 8! 14 was too few for this sumptuous score.

According to IBDB the current Broadway orchestra is 28 musicians: 5 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, 7(!) woodwinds, 3 French horns, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, tuba, harp, bass and 1 percussion.

Also there was talk of a Drury Lane theatre, the conflicting message on here that I is going into a ATG house, I am pretty certain that the Lion King isn't going anywhere, even though Theatre Royal, Druy Lans isn't ATG it would be gear if it goes in there, do a large scale revival something like they did with My Fair Lady would be good. Also this would mean that a fairly average show will close.
Cannot think of a reasonable sized ATG theatre this would go in.
Also The King and I requires pretty hefty wing space.

If ATG didn't throw us off, I would of said no doubt it would be Drury Lane... I doubt Charlie will see through the end of this year, it is already the longest running show at that theatre in about a decade if it makes it to the end of its booking this December, recently the Drury only does shows for about 2 years!

Good point... all the other theatres are pretty much long running shows that show no signs of closing anytime soon (including Harry Potter at the Palace!)

It might not necessarily end up in an ATG theatre. I think Drury Lane or New London seem the most likely option.

Going off topic so I apologise, but I wonder whether anyone on this board will see the closure of Les Mis or Phantom in their life-time! If I had to choose one, it'd be Phantom, too.
Back to topic: the Palladium Elaine Paige King & I in 2000 was one of my first ever theatrical experiences when I was 6 years old. I remember precisely nothing about it so would love to see it again!
