Whilst that video is pretty terrible, the arrangement of '(Love lifts us) Up Where We Belong' sounds amazing. Noting its inclusion in this show gives me hope that it'll get licensed for the stage vers of Moulin Rouge for Elephant Love Medley.

^ there's no doubt about that. They both have great voices, and the song is a decent one if it wasn't as abused, overplayed, oversung, etc.

That Australian production looks pretty bad, but at least it was an original score!
So they've done away with that altogether and replaced it with 80's hits? Do we know that it's definitely the same book?

AndyH you have pretty much summed up my views on Curve lately. Back when Paul Kerryson was there I was eagerly awaiting Nikolai to take over as I thought we would get fresh, innovative theatre produced, but it just seems as though we are getting production after production of crowd pleasers to bring in the masses but nothing new or different!

I just got an email about this from Edinburgh Playhouse boasting the "The World Premiere Prior To London!"
From that I had assumed it would be like Young Frankenstein, one venue before London, not what this seems to be, a UK tour. Quite misleading.

Ooh sounds smashing. If they're shoe-horning 80s classics into the score, I hope they've made space for Russ Abbot's 'Atmosphere' somewhere. Oh, I love a party with a happy atmosphere.

As i say, i do like the shows they put on, i can't sit here and bash Legally Blonde and Grease because i did enjoy them and especially Legally Blonde, but i just feel like the work coming out of it needs to be different. Theres success in terms of getting people through the door and critical success, and you are never going to build up a good reputation producing shows like that. You need work that is a bit more original, or the opposite and a bit more classic and classy. I was please that they got Sunset Boulevard and that's a good show for them to have i think, as well as Scrooge, which i do they will do quite well with, i had thoiught it was beginning to turn a corner a bit but i'm not a fan of this new announcement. I feel a bit happier after reading Nikolai's words on it but still not got very high hopes. This isn't even in the top 100 of things Curve should be doing. More Adrian Moles is what they should be doing because i feel proud of that show. I saw it originally in Leicester and thought it was great and was very pleased to see it have more of a life in London and doing well and was pleased to see the show had improved further for this run and is getting a lot of critical success. The thing you have to point out about that though is that's not actually Nikolai's or any of the current Curve teams work and all independent creatives just under the Curve banner. But that's okay still. I suppose their argument will be that they are producing more than ever, getting shows in London/around the country/internationally, making more money than ever, getting more people in the Theatre than ever, attracting big producers and tours ect ect...

Yes, the producers are chasing the hen party crowd that loves Mamma Mia, The Bodyguard, Motown etc. A hit, romantic film with some well known songs - they are hoping to hit the jackpot. So much harder to create a hit with a new show and unknown score.......

Interesting idea but could anyone take serious a character like Sgt Foley suddenly bursting into "We're in the Army Now!". One left field song which may fit in could be I Want To Be Your Drill Instructor from Full Metal Jacket but getting approval from the Kubrick estate might be hard.

I'm not familiar with the film at all but I agree with what others have said about being underwhelmed by the announcement. Curve is one of my local theatres and I do try and go there relatively regularly but they don't seem to be taking many real risks. I've certainly been more interested in shows in the fringe theatres in London and Manchester and Sheffield than at Curve.
They are doing Pink Sari Revolution in October which I thought was an exciting announcement having read the book and I saw a great production by NYMT of Spring Awakening there last summer but aside from those I haven't been that interested.

I cannot and will not be attending...

With the Uniform at the end always used by male stripper acts and someone mentioning YMCA, why not bust out all the 1980's camp classics and make it camper than a daffodil to quote Freddie Mercury.
Cast John Barrowman in the Richard Gere role, David Walliams or Alan Carr as his sidekick. Stephen K.Amos as Sgt Foley, if he's not available get Cynthia Eviro other from US and hence lots of jokes about what she has got between her legs.
Have songs like Club Tropicana, Break My Stride, Male Stripper etc in it and have a leading LGBT personality to guest as the commanding officer each night.
Effectively it has a camp Spring Time For Hitler makeover.
