We are off to Liverpool for the weekend but that probably means seeing something on Saturday, 29th July.
We are staying with a friend near the waterfront and just wondering what’s on locally (will happily get on the train somewhere else if that helps).
Not really looking for a touring show as we are London based, but keen to hear of any kind of Musical Event, play or …. That would make Saturday night special.
Is there a good website to consult?
Recommendations please.

Not much on. Curious Incident at the Empire. Playhouse, Everyman and Royal Court all dark.
I guess Chester is a reachable distance by train ~ 40 mins so that makes the newly opened Storyhouse theatre an option. Looks like there is a performance of The Beggars Opera on the 29th. Not been to this theatre yet so no idea of quality etc.

I've posted my views on The Beggars Opera on here if you want some honest opinion on the production.

Nothing on in Sheffield, though that's a trek from Liverpool.
Lowry has the All Male Mikado and The Railway Children.
Manchester Palace - Sister Act tour.
Royal exchange, HOME, Octagon all dark.

It seems to be refurbishment season. Most of the theatres were closed for it when I was in Liverpool last month.

I shall use this thread for a rant about the WORST THEATRE WEBSITE EVER - the Storyhouse theatre website. I'm in Chester for work in a couple of weeks so thought I'd see whether there's anything on. Have a look here - www.storyhouse.com/ and see how long it takes you to work out how to find out what is on on a particular date! By default you just get today's shows listed. So you then click on "Day by Day listings" which you might assume gives you a list of what's on, day by day. But in fact it generates a PDF containing today's listings, because that's obviously what you'd want. Since they are running several shows in rep, across an indoor and outdoor theatre, plus a cinema, plus other activities listed, it's not at all obvious what is on when. Worked it out eventually and it seems there's nothing on while I'm there.

I imagine there will be something to do with the Beatles there. God knows Liverpool doesn't let us forget in a hurry.
