Cats - interval (couldn't come fast enough) Oliver! (Barks and Bob the Builder) - interval. All that cor blimey stuff. Vile. Dinnerladies - interval - two actors from the actual tv show joined by a cast of lookee-likees. Id have stuck it out but my friend said it was "heresy". Beyond The Barricade - interval. Beyond painful. Had to leave, needed first aid as my ears were bleeding. There are a few more but I must have blanked them. There are several that I never actually went to in the first place too, as I couldn't be bothered after I'd read the reviews or had an earache or something. Ones I didn't leave but stayed due to peer pressure and shouldn't have: The Girls - well documented. Cabaret - Barks (again) and Wayne Sleep. Beyond embarrassing. Sister Act with Miss Burke. - Dearie me. Thoroughly Modern Millie - the only person in my group of 6 who liked it was someone who doesn't Ike musicals. And many more. I'm usually dead easily pleased though and will sit through any old tut  |

Have only walked out of one show at the interval. Killing of Sister George with Meera Syal but that was because I had what I thought was excruciating indigestion. Turned out to be a gall stone and ended up in A&E a few hours later. So wasn't really out of choice.
Otherwise been pretty lucky with what i have seen. Mind you I choose shows I am fairly confident I am going to enjoy.

Never walked out, but tempted to do so three times:
Stephen Ward: Because it is Webber I had faith it would get better. It didn't. That show deserved its fate in the form it was in. Very dull and boring bar Joanna Riding and a couple songs.
Mamma Mia: Actually really enjoy the show, was my second time. But sat in the Upper and there was a group of European tourists who were clapping and singing along throughout the whole show, to every song. It was awful.
Guys & Dolls: First time, just didn't really enjoy it or understand why it was so legendary. But the second time, with a much better cast with Simon Lipkin and Rebel Wilson, I enjoyed it so much more!
I would never do it though. I find it a waste of money to not stick it out, and I always find something to enjoy in every show I see. |

Actually I'm wrong, there was one show that I left before the interval but returned to after the interval, Bend It Like Beckham first time, but that was because I had forgotten to take my epilepsy medication and started feeling dizzy and like I was about to collapse so I had to go outside and get some air!

I think, based on the Mamma Mia story above were I to leave a show early it would likely be down to the audience rather than the show

I very rarely leave anything at the interval, but I was happy to make the exception for Kismet at the Coliseum and some dire bit of nonsense at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. It didn't help that the seats were about as comfortable as sitting on an upturned crate.

and I always find something to enjoy in every show I see. Like this sentiment a lot. There is always something to enjoy or something to take away from any experience in the theatre (even if sadly, for some, that experience is negative, its still an experience).

Wicked - 16th or 17th visit, I'd gone to specifically see a certain Elphaba who I'd missed a few times before. It really didn't float my boat and having been so many times before I thought about leaving at the interval.
I stuck it out and it continues to go downhill from there, but it was another witch ticked off my list...

I've done it twice.
First time was Phantom on Broadway which I'd bought a ticket to return to a year after seeing it for the first time solely because Hugh Panaro was still in the title role. Then I turned up and his understudy was on as well as the Christine alternate, both of whom I found weak. And for me the show is boring without excellent performances. Bought another ticket and came back to see Hugh again a few days later, totally worth it, he's incomparable.
I also did it my second time seeing Titanic at Charing Cross. I was desperate to see the Ladies Maid scene again as it had been one of those magical theatre moments that just left me with the tingles, but although I was a fan of the production as a whole, I found the second act considerably weaker and would rather have had an early night. Don't regret it, worth the £17 or so to see Victoria Serra knock it out the park with that number again.
Never left a show solely because I found it awful.

Never left at the interval; would've at Wonderland if I didn't have 'connections' in the show and would've at Whisper House if they had one! Other than that, I'm a mixture of finding something positive in everything I see, but also going to see things that I know I have a very high chance of liking. Gotta spend those duckets wisely!

Definitely the finding something positive in any performance camp here. The Girls was probably the closest I'd ever come but the individual performances kept my interest though the show didnt

I've left 2 operas in the interval due to hating the productions, WNO's Il Ritorno D'Ulisse In Patria & ENO's Peter Grimes. The latter won that year's opera Olivier so my view was clearly a minority! I left Southwark's Titanic in the interval due to feeling ill with the heat. And age 11 I walked out of my school drama competition within a couple minutes of one class beginning a play of Sweeney Todd.

I've not done it (yet) but I have had the inclination on many occasions. Once Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Doctor Faustus Death Takes a Holiday War Paint I have only ever seen two of those shows. Death Takes a Holiday I wasn't sure in the first maybe quarter, but then I found it really beautiful and lush.
Doctor Faustus was one of the strangest, bizarre shows I have ever seen. Very homoerotic and someone ate sh*t out of the toilet, I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. But I strangely enjoyed it and found it intriguing because I had no clue what the heck was gonna happen next so I just couldn't leave, I was too entertained by the craziness unfolding in front of me.
I've heard mixed things of War Paint. I'm amazed a lot of people thought if Bette didn't win the Tony, Patti would. Because I've heard a lot of people saying they have no clue what the hell she is saying the whole show and if the Tony's was an indication of how she speaks as well as sings, I'd be lost too.

I left Carmen at the 02 about 45 mins in. It was truly dreadful, opera in an arena setting does not work.
