Have heard this is finally appearing on this side of the pond, with an Off-West End run later this year. It is? That'd be awesome. After I found out that the score is from Memphis' David Bryan, I had to buy the cast recording and really enjoyed it. Some silliness, but also some great songs. Any idea about a potential venue? Menier? Southwark? Maybe the St James? Or one of the smaller fringe venues as the Landor or Union?

Oh, I'd love that! Been a huge fan of David Bryan for ages! First Memphis came, now this. Thanks for the news!

Toxic Avengers is from BOTH of the Memphis creators. Joe DiPietro wrote the book and lyrics.

Katy Lipson/Aria Entertainment and others have been tweeting teasers tonight including #hottoxiclove, #eveilishot and #allmenarefreaks, with smokey, neon green hearts/letters - possible it could be her behind it. If so, she has a large affinity with the St James Studio and Upstairs at the Gatehouse, but maybe she's branched out for this!

Possibly going to Southwark Playhouse? They're announcing their next musical today and Aria Entertainment also have an announcement today I think it must be! Aria Entertainment retweeted Southwark Playhouse's tweet about an announcement, shortly after their own about new musical news. Lunch time today ?

...and I'm booked. Sat, 30th April, Matinee. Was positively surprised when they (finally, I must add) offered allocated seating. Edit: Their confirmation mail still says: "SOUTHWARK PLAYHOUSE OPERATES AN UNALLOCATED SEATING POLICY"

They just forgot to update their template for the confirmation mail. It does list my seat, but has also the line I quoted above in it.

Not always very high value in terms of ticket yield or donations

Usual plug for the bargain Pay as You Go scheme at Southwark which they have relaunched: southwarkplayhouse.co.uk/your-visit/payg/£60 for 5 tickets which can be used for any show and don't expire. May be some restrictions on dates for this although they've not announced any for Toxic Avenger yet.

In addition to introducing allocated seating, as announced, Southwark Playhouse have apparently also changed another part of the booking process, but without (so far) publicising it: PAYG tix can no longer be booked online. At least this is what they told me when I rang because I was having trouble booking online with PAYG.

At least this is what they told me when I rang because I was having trouble booking online with PAYG. Seems like you can do it now. Log in first and add a seat to your basket (at normal price). A later "discounts" page will ask if you want to apply one of your PAYGs. So glad this venue has finally moved to allocated seating!

Well, that's good news, loopyjohn - it did seem an odd and inconvenient change, but when I rang the Box Office for help, I was told I was speaking to the Box Office manager, and you'd think he'd know what he was talking about! He said it was to stop people booking more than 2 tix per performance with PAYG, but I'd have assumed the system did that anyway, though as I go alone or with one other person, I've never tried to book more than 2 seats at once.

It's a disappointing choice. Still, I guess all the UK/Eupropean premiers of shows doesnt harm their reputation.
I've booked for Monday preview., right in the middle of row C, centre block. It seems to be the same seating configuration as it was for Grey Gardens. Interesting they have added a preview the afternoon of the press performance.

Just booked for the first preview matinee, and am happy with the reserved seating now. It's such a chore queuing for a good seat when you're a seat snob like myself, also means I can spend more time with my mother doing something fun before theatre than having to arrive at the venue an hour plus before show time to just wait around in a queue.
So long as this doesn't lead to tiered pricing then I wholly welcome the continuation of reserved seating at the Southwark Playhouse.

Yes, this could prove a slippery slope, though there are other theatres with allocated seating but a single price per performance, concessions excepted. I know the PAYG bundle has gone up £10, but I was shocked to see that my ticket was £25 before the "discount".

After successful visits for Xanadu and Grey Gardens I have taken the plunge and bought an subscription, because if they keep going like this i will be back many times and this is a great offer. I get in for student usually at around £20, so basically 2 free shows since I often go on my own.
Final matinee of the toxic avenger booked, never heard of it before this but sounds like my kind of thing! And all done through the website using my new subscription. And allocated seating is a welcome bonus.

Would kind of like to see this, but it doesn't fit in to a pre-planned London trip and i don't quite want to see it enough to make a special trip for it.
Ultimately glad that they have decided to introduce reserved seating, though I did quite like watching the disappointment of groups arriving at the last minute and realizing they had to sit separately. At Grey Gardens a group of five arrived about three minutes before it started and I thought one of them was going to literally explode when they were told that they couldn't do anything about arranging for them to sit together. She made a right show of herself at the top of her voice, kinda fitting for the show, lol.

That will be a loss, the amusement of people coming to an unreserved seating show a couple of minutes before it begins expecting special treatment

Not all unreserved seating venues will say "sorry, there's only singles left" though, some ushers will ask people to move up to make space (the Young Vic and Tricycle used to, the Soho does it, can't think of other specific examples off the top of my head right now), to which I always want to but only sometimes say "no, I arrived early so I could choose my seat, and I've chosen this one". I never liked gambling on which theatres would leave you in peace once you'd sat down (as long as you weren't occupying two seats and had to be reminded that the seam under your backside was a dividing line) and which would move you regardless.
Also, why is it so 100% vitally important that you sit next to your friends at the theatre, especially when you're arriving only a minute or two before curtain? Are you planning on chatting during the show? It's probably for the best that you *are* separated, in that scenario. You can meet up at the interval. You can have a drink together afterwards. You could even stake out your seats with coats then chat with your friends until the last couple of minutes.

I'm just glad because it means I can arrive just in time for curtain-up and still sit somewhere decent... I'm now working just outside London which means I have to get the train back into London for an evening show. Getting somewhere for 7.30pm is easy, getting somewhere for 6.30pm or even 7pm just so I can join a queue is a pain. And I know there are usually no really bad seats at the Southwark Playhouse, it just takes one element of stress off the list...

Going with my theatre buddy Warren, to the preview Matinee on Sat 23 April.
Will be going bind, don’t know a note of the score and haven’t read the synopsis or reviews from previous productions – I have never heard of this!!
Looking forward to enjoying the venue pre-show for the 1st time (OK so a week-day matinee of ‘Carrie’ was hardly a scum or a large queue but still)
