Of all the things that gets a transfer from Southwark, why this? Where's Grey Gardens, where's the amazing Carrie?? I left The Toxic Avenger at the interval. I am totally ready for Carrie to transfer, I missed it and it is a life regret!
But I want to see Side Show somewhere! If Louise isn't doing Finding Neverland, once she has had that child, get her into Side Show again!

But I'm also very glad this is transferring - it's the one thing I'm really miffed I never got to see at Southwark after hearing rave reports about it. |

Crazy prices. From 20 pounds at Southwark (which is a nicer space) to 60 at the crumbling sticky floored Arts?! What a joke.... Great to see it has a future life but a bad move making it three times more expensive.

I am now leaning towards a visit to surprise my other half for his birthday as he LOVED the show, don't know whether to book or wait and risk it for discounted tickets!

No "set up" trial. The system defaults to that while they are loading, and resolves soon. Was going to say... I'd hope they'd include a programme for that price! hah  |

I paid £14 to see this last year. Charging £60 premiums for a show at the Arts is laughable.

This opens on Thursday and I'm really looking forward to seeing it on Saturday given I missed out the first time around.
It doesn't look like it's selling particularly well, though - hardly surprising at those prices. I got a decent deal via Amazon tickets.
Fingers crossed for them that they get a lot of last minute bookings...

It's hard to know what's more toxic about this at the Arts Theatre - the protagonist or those prices!
It was £15.50 for a slightly abridged version of the same production at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Went to the first preview of this at the Arts last night and thought it was absolutely fantastic. I missed it at Southwark, but the guy sat next to me said it was completely different to how he remembered it at Southwark, in a good way. Sat the other side of me was the full creative team, so it was fascinating to hear them talk about the show also, they were commenting how the 'grungey' feel of the Arts suited the show. There was one 5 minute stop only a few minutes in where someone knocked the power to the sound board out, but the cast handled it brilliantly and other than that it felt really smooth for a first preview. I did hear the creative team saying that the 'LED Mapping' that is in the floor and the walls of the stage hasn't been switched on yet, but should be ready by next Monday and will be pretty impressive in the big numbers. It really reminded me of Urinetown (which I thought was genius) and loved how they even hold up a Urinetown t-shirt at one point.
It says in the programme that it was the professional debut of the guy playing 'White Dude' and he was the stand out star for me - I'm sure we'll be seeing more of him.
Will definitely be going back before the run ends!
(Definitely avoid the front row if you're not a fan of audience participation!)

Looking at the seating chart for this weekend, it would appear those outrageous prices are putting people off.
Probably not helped by the other cult comedy movie musical opening down the road on the same night!

Just had a quick look on TodayTix and despite absolute swathes of unsold seats for tonight's show (go ahead and have a look for yourself, it looks desperate), they're still charging £32.50 per seat if you want more than one, or £20 for a single seat.
This site's tickets are £25 per seat for restricted view, £38 each otherwise. This is absolutely not a criticism of this site, to make myself completely clear. I also have it on very good authority that they're papering every show this weekend.
I used this show as an example in the Where Has the Audience Gone thread, and it's so sad to see that this naked greed is causing such pitiful audience numbers. I've heard nothing but amazing things about this production and am very eager to see it, but I refuse to pay such outrageous prices when it barely takes any effort at all to discover how low the demand is. It's such a shame that this will have such a negative effect on all the creatives, who I have no doubt are brilliant.

Mormon was clever and smart, Toxic Avenger was just stupid.
I felt £12 at Southwark Playhouse was over priced but the west end prices for it are ridiculous.

Mormon was clever and smart, Toxic Avenger was just stupid. Interesting. I felt that both had similar "South Park" (American Frat Boy) type humour, myself. While I wouldn't call Toxic Avenger stupid, I do agree with @tbfl that Book of Mormon's humour is much smarter. I really liked TA back at the Southwark Playhouse (and look forward to seeing it in November at the Arts), but BoM is a completely different level. |

Did this production play in Edinburgh??
This type of campy schtick just isn't my thing. I think i was the only one here who didn't like Xanadu.
