As for PTM saying people are really complaining it’s not a british musical?! To quote Bianca Del Rio “Really, Queen?!” (Oops sorry she’s American he probably wouldn’t appreciate that ) Not just playing Devil's advocate but I did see a couple of Twitter threads where people were complaining that it wasn't a British musical, and from what I remember the tone of it was pretty aggressive! Oh really? That’s interesting thanks for letting me know that. Didn’t realise that was true. I prefer to support new musicals, I don’t care where they’ve come from (and since grinning man and romantics anonymous and their lack of nominations it seems like people really pick and choose when to support NBM)

The fact of the matter as well is that if TOP concentrated solely on British Musicals then it would end up going under because there aren't enough to fill a year and they aren't going to be popular enough straight out to fill the seats. There has to be a mix and what they are doing is giving opportunities to new British musicals alongside giving us other titles from overseas that we might have otherwise not have had the chance to see. I think it's the best of both worlds. I mean how can there be these complaints when since the start of the year they have given runs to two big new British musicals in Eugenius and Myth?
Plus yes Heathers isn't a British title but most of the creatives are.We aren't talking about the West End where an American musical coming over fully means an American musical coming over, creative and all.

I was looking for the other thread but I feel it's been deleted...
You're absolutely right Andy, I think it's a case of people seeing red and speaking before thinking, especially as PTM and TOP have been trying to shed light on so many new productions via Page2Stage, Work in Progress (which was 2 US productions and 2 British wasn't it?), constantly encouraging writers to send in new work for them to showcase etc. It must be frustrating doing all of this and then bringing over a popular show that people have been begging for it to be over here just to have to deal with a whole load of complaints on the first day. The pricing complaints I can understand but I think the personal attacks about the origins of the work directed at PTM is too far.

Surely people are jumping to see this because it’s an already established musical based on a cult classic film? Not because it originated in America? That’s where I find the argument gets tricky.
I do applaud the work of PTM and TOP for presenting new matierial so much and have always enjoyed their offerings of new work.

Complaining people aren't flocking to see it when tickets have only been on sale a day?
Is that not very premature?
Not all of us have pots of gold in reserve to shell out at the very mention of a new musical appearing. Especially so these days when you tend to get such little notice.
Notice these days seems to be a Baz announcement 11pm Friday that tickets are on sale on a few hours time.

Complaining people aren't flocking to see it when tickets have only been on sale a day? Their complaint (I believe) is more that there isn't this much chatter and excitement over a new British musical, but that's hardly the fault of PTM/TOP. Heathers already had a cult following from the film and then the musical too, it's already known, whereas unless you know about a new musical already it's hard to create this much hype over it. Which is a shame, yes! I wish they'd just announced Heathers and tickets first, then Carrie being in it a little later. The name of the show itself would've sold fairly well from the get-go and that would've been interesting to see.

Really? Maybe I’m in the dark a bit on this but I barely know anyone under 30 who even knows the film. Alas, I spoke to a 26 year old this week who has never heard of Kevin Spacey (our office is very near to the Old Vic too) and had a friend who met a 24 year old last week who had never heard of Jack Nicholson. Knowing that there are young people who know Heathers is at least a light at the end of this very dark tunnel. Don’t underestimate the role parents and older siblings play in introducing kids to ‘classics’. Exactly. And people exploring films on their own - I'm 37 and I've seen hundreds of films older than I am! If something is great, it's great, regardless of how old it is 😁

Well. I don't know Carrie Hope Fletcher but I know from here that I should hate her. I don't like The Other Palace. The seats are uncomfortable, it's not in London's glitzy West End so they shouldn't charge more than £2.50 for a ticket and the box office is in a really stupid place. Paul Taylor Mills should be publicly flogged for putting on a musical I don't like and for being a big Twitter baby. The prices are extortionate and Carrie's fans are dreadful. I think that covers it?
Apart from all of that, of course I'll go to see it if I can get a cheap ticket. 😉
Chillax folks. First World problems and all that.

I struggle a bit with tokenism for the sake of it; which I realise is easy enough to say as a straight white male, but if more quality British musicals had been written and produced in the last twenty years, there wouldn’t be a need to make jingoistic claims about putting on mostly British musicals. If peoples needs aren’t being addressed by what is currently on offer, or they only find themselves on the fringes of that artform, then fair enough (Black Panther I’m looking at you...4th biggest movie of all time now. Whoever would have thought that POC go to the cinema too 🙄). If only we lived in a world where all of our needs were met without excluding others. This year I feel that both Hamilton & Black Panther have brought us slightly closer to this; just a shame that it’s exception rather than norm.

The other issue in what PTM wrote yesterday, he has said that he is putting on a big show and that is the reasoning for the prices and the math. Fair enough. But now that means it has to be a big show! If people walk in on that first preview and there isnt multiple costume and set changes, special effects, lighting and projection etc, that is where, once again, backlash kicks in.

That’s a really good point. @ryan where was the Box Office when you went. It’s been in three different places when I’ve been. Although calling it an ‘Office’ now is a big push. Box Desk probably covers the last incarnation I saw.

If something is great, it's great, regardless of how old it is 😁 See, I think it’s different for people like us (I’m 36) who grew up as children without the internet and a never ending choice of TV channels. A lot of my love of movie musicals did come from my mum, but everything else came from the old movies they would show on TV on Sunday mornings on BBC 2. The other channels would be showing religious programming, Formula 1 and Horse Racing, so “anything else” was just the default we would go to as kids. I’m sure if at the age of 8 I had the choice to see a current film over an old one I would have taken it, but I’m pretty thankful now that it contributed to my general knowledge of popular culture.

The Wizard of Oz, Sunset Boulevard, Psycho, Mary Poppins to name a few are some of my all time favourites, not to even go into the Disney catalogue! And Heathers is a fabulous film (even though I was no where near born the time it came out hahaha)

This is all quite exhausting! Can't keep up. This is why Twitter does my head in and I stay away from it. People just seem spend all their time slagging people off or replying to said slaggings! Life is too short, people 😁

Soooo, back to the subject matter. Has anyone managed to secure any cheap tickets for this? Because at a quick glance, I can't find any.

You might get lucky with the odd date here and there but it's pretty much just the overpriced ones left now! 😁

Soooo, back to the subject matter. Has anyone managed to secure any cheap tickets for this? Because at a quick glance, I can't find any. I managed to find a £25 one around 2:30pm on the day of release but that involved me searching through every date available. When I booked it seemed there was only that 1 £25 and two £37.50 seats available, all the others were over £50.

1000 extra tickets being released at 10am tomorrow across all price bands, starting at £25.
Not sure if it's extra dates or seats that have been on hold...I assume the former.
