I thought it was better than the first one personally. it wasn't quite so cheesy.

Dare I ask the question how much do we get of the reason we are all going: Meryl and Cher? Or could it be (just a crazy thought) to see how the music of ABBA is reinterpreted and bought back to life for a whole new generation in a different light?

Dare I ask the question how much do we get of the reason we are all going: Meryl and Cher? Speak for yourself - I'm going for Christine Baranski, Julie Walters and Amanda Seyfried, and to stare lustfully at Dominic Cooper whenever he's on screen... Meryl is the reason for going to see anything of course, but I'm not getting my hopes up for her being in much of this. I'm not a fan of Cher at all, so the less she's in it, the better as far as I'm concerned!

I wonder how long it is before the stage version is running in rep alongside the original, with marathon days on Saturday.

Dare I ask the question how much do we get of the reason we are all going: Meryl and Cher? Another "speak for yourself" response: I'm just going in hope of a good time and not to see anyone in particular. Though if we were talking about individuals, there are two I'd rather NOT see.

The soundtrack gets released this Friday. I will definitely be getting it. I just wish they would release more of the songs, even just small snippets would be great.

Doing Mama Mia 2 on the stage would give the show another decade or so. Could work.

Dare I ask the question how much do we get of the reason we are all going: Meryl and Cher? I'm certainly not part of that 'we', if anything Cher puts me off she looks so out of place and Meryl I don't mind but I don't get the fuss over her singing. For me it's great music and a cheesy and fun couple of hours escapism Considering the track record of musical sequels on stage I'm not so sure this will end up on stage. It will be interesting to see how the box office for the movie compares to the first one

I'm not that familiar with the first film (saw it once - that was enough), but weren't a lot of these songs already in the first one??

Do we get ‘If It Wasn’t For The Nights’ or not? Because I’ve always thought that between that, ‘The Visitors’ and ‘The Day Before You Came’ you had the basis for a real dark mid-40’s breakdown musical.

I see no reason to attend then. The first one only mildly entertained, and the presence of Cher is hardly a gold seal of approval. She’s just another guest slot on ‘Will & Grace’ away from self parody, which for someone who can be a fantastic actress is a shame.

If you didn’t really enjoy the first one, go and see this one. As a movie it’s much better. It has that ‘love actually’ feeling. The past is woven nicely into the story giving more depth to it all. And it has some great musical moments.

Richard Curtis was one of the writers along with Ol Parker and Catherine Johnson so not too surprising that it has a Love Actually feel.
It’s a shame that they couldn’t have had more ABBA songs and maybe not reprise the ones from the first.

Using some of the same songs from the original film makes total sense in the context of the new film. And they're not all complete songs either.

Is Cher playing Streeps mother?
Only, I saw the first one this weekend again and noticed she said that someone up there has it in for her, probably her mother. By that I took it to mean her mother was dead.

By that I took it to mean her mother was dead. It's possible Donna meant that in a facetious way. I know Frasier retconned Martin being in the show even though in Cheers, he said he was dead.

cher also doesn't make sense as Donnas mum because both the movie and musical describe her as a conservative Catholic and that's why donna moves to greece

I wonder if Sophie had a DNA test between the two films to determine who her real dad was? I always thought it was either Sam or Bill.

The soundtrack is available now and I’m really enjoying it, think My Love, My Life is going to be a tearjerker.

Just had a listen now. They sound great don’t they?! Especially love One of Us, KMKY and the day before you came. I can’t wait for the film to be released next week. I’m definitely going next Friday after work so need to get a cinema ticket booked ASAP. I just hope they do a sing along version, though quite honestly I’ll probably be singing along away even if they don’t!
