I get the feeling it's going to do a lot less than the first film although it'd be still a success if it did half of the film. Hmm, possibly. But people will go out of curiosity and expecting more of the same of the last film. They’ll also go out of nostalgia for ABBA.

And just how long before someone gets the idea to... put it on stage?! Tour anyone?! Starting in Southampton, of course... I’m sure old Billy K will take a chance on this...

Kenwright will never get his hands on it. It belongs to the original Mamma Mia producers. I doubt they will make a stage version anytime soon. Especially with the potential Muriel’s Wedding expanding to other territories.

Well if it doesn’t do as well as predicted (although I doubt it) that be a good way to breathe new life to it.
They could promote a package deal where you catch a matinee of one show and the evening performance of the other and then in 10 years time the second film will be considered a cult classic.

They reaaaaaaaaally should have featured some of the new songs in the trailer - otherwise it just looks like the original film soundtrack with a different (and dodgy) storyline. Hm....

Just watched the trailer. It looks like fun, same as the first film. And its great to see most of the cast back (as long as Pierce doesn't sing!). Cher looks great, and will be a welcome addition, as will Lily James. I am GUTTED as to what it seems to be implying with Meryl Streep, who was, by far, the best part of the original. Hopefully she will feature in many a flashback and we will get to see her do one or two numbers.
Also, are we really supposed to believe that Christine Baranski's character hasn't changed her hair in 40 years?! 😂😂

Hahaha.... the Rosie character looks nothing like Julie Walters and has a dodgy accent.

I wasn't overly keen on the trailer. It seemed to go on forever - every time I thought it had finished, another scene started up!
I didn't recognise Cher until she spoke - I thought it was Lady Gaga at first! Actually, she (LGg) wouldn't be a bad idea to play Cher in a biopic!

Could it be that they're just trying to make us think she's dead with the editing of these trailers? Who was the poster that first dropped the spoiler on here? Are they working for Universal?

It's on descriptions of the movie on various sites and it's a well known fact that Meryl wasn't on set for the majority of the movie. I don't think it's as much a spoiler as a well-publicised plot point now!

Obviously there's no such thing as a reliable source in this day and age, but I was intrigued by this sentence from the Wikipedia entry: "However, despite being overjoyed, Sophie admits she doubts whether she will be able to do it by herself without letting her mother know." Maybe Donna isn't dead, but has gone away somewhere? To an ashram or the International Space Station or trekking in a part of the world with no 3G?

Perhaps she's not dead but Donna has just made a pilgrimage to Stockholm to find Agnetha and Frida and discover just how those songs really should be sung?

Curiosity got the better of me so I checked the history of the page. It seems that someone reworded it on the 24th, possibly to avoid spoilers, but didn't do a very good job of it.

I don't think it's as much a spoiler as a well-publicised plot point now! The official synopsis hasn't been released by Universal though. Or if it has, it hasn't mentioned the words "Donna" and "death" in the same sentence.
Somebody on Broadway World said they met somebody at a party who had worked on the film but they refused to say anything about plotlines but did confirm that Meryl was only filming for one week.
Is the location of this movie meant to be the same as the first or is it a different island? Maybe Donna only turns up at the end because she's been too busy singing to refugees back at the B'n'B. And she sends her recently reincarnated mother in her place after a plot to pass her off as Lady Gaga at a concert to benefit Syrian orphans goes awry and she has to flee in her helicopter.

Its speculation but if Donna is dead it may be a good excuse to include the song An Angel passing Through My Room.
I have been thinking the this and in the first film Donna played a major role; on her relationship with her daughter Sophie and her three potential Dads and with her friends Tanya and Rosie. Also with Sam.
However, as well as for support, these characters were supportive and comedy roles. The same for Bill and Harry.
Well now that these have been resolved o a satisfactory conclusion, is the character really needed?
Hey look I'm as much a Meryl fan as the next viewer but I do question and now we've moved on. Sophie is pregnant and they're introducing a new character in Cher as Donna's mother.
Also, with the stage show and movie musical, the songs that are used are positioned in such a way as to move the story forward with minimal changes to the words.
I hope the same happens here. With that in mind how they're gonna shoehorn in Fernando is yet to be seen.

So we're getting Waterloo and Cher singing Fernando I've long been of the opinion that wine is my soul mate. Good to see Cher taking inspiration from Norma Desmond for her descent down the staircase.
