Apologies if this has already been posted, but this week of rehearsed readings of "seminal queer plays" has some great directors. Stephen Daldry (Bent) and Tarell Alvin McCraney (Wig Out) to name but two. No casting details as yet. Tickets already on sale to members, general booking 5 May. www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/shows/queer-theatre

These are coming soon & still no word on casting.... do we think they'll just use actors already on stage in their other shows, or can we expect any surprises?

From what I know they are casting external to their existing company....was promised 'exciting' casting but I don't know for which one(s)

Baz announced casting for some of the readings on Twitter last week, but nothing on the NT site and no info about some of the readings. Great cast for those that have been announced.

The cast for CERTAIN YOUNG MEN really is something else !! It is indeed. Rufus has already emailed me to tell me I'm banned from the stage door. He used more four letter words of course but I got the gist.

It's going to be a hugely exciting cast. I know this, because I'm going to be on the other side of the Atlantic when it happens, and unable to see it.

haha right? It's such an important play in my theatre-going and personal life and it's the only one I can make...but I'm still on the fence over 4 hour coach trip unless it's AMAZING casting. Actually I just want something to jusfity me saying 'sod it all' and sacking off a conference in Bristol to do Pride weekend in London

I do want to go to these but as I understand it's just a reading?
So not staged at all?

They're staged readings- so actors will have scripts. How much 'staging' is done will depend on the play/ actors/directors and how much time they've had to work on it.
For Bent for example, it proabably won't lose too much in just being a reading as it's not so scenery/action dependant. Others may be a bit different through lack of costumes/staging.
However for a few of them it's a chance to see rarely performed plays. I'd certainly recomend seeing The Drag and Neapatide as they're not seen often. Personally you couldn't pay me to sit through any Peter Gill play again but that's my personal issue.

The email says Simon Russell Beale is involved but I don't see him under any of the four actually announced casts. Do we reckon he'll be part of Bent, or am I just not looking in the right places and he's actually doing something else?

Oh possibly....I don't recall SRB popping up in the others and he could well be Greta (is that his name? it's been an age...)

When Alan Cumming was allegedly in talks to star in Pinocchio, I though that maybe he would do the reading of Bent too. It was just wishful thinking but I really wanted it to be true. Oh well...
