Following on from Plays and Musicals
Opera I hate: Simon Boccanegra - I don't think I have ever been so bored as when I saw this at ENO
Opera I think is overrated: I have never got Janacek... sorry but I haven't
Opera I think is underrated: Agrippina (Handel) or Le Conte Ory (Rossini)
Opera I Love: Don Giovanni
Opera I Cherish: Don Carlo(s) - I love the score so much. Forza del Destino might well come a close second
Guilty Pleasure: Les Contes d'Hoffmann - Offenbach wrote some pretty amazing tunes
Opera I want to see revived: Der Vampyr (Marschner)
Opera that I first performed in: La Boheme (as chorus), Beggar's Opera (as principal - if you can call Nimming Ned a principal, he is at least a named character, otherwise it would be Monostatos in Flute)
Opera that I first saw: Magic Flute (Kent Opera tour back in the 80s)
Opera I saw most recently: Roberto Devereux (Donizetti)
Greatest Opening: Peter Grimes - oh yes
Greatest Ending: La Boheme - those final chords are guaranteed to make me weep
Worst middle of an otherwise Great Opera: Much as I love Cosi, I don't think it has ever held my attention in the same way as the other big Mozart pieces. Doesn't mean it is bad - it is just not great
Greatest Opera of all time: It is probably between Le Nozze di Figaro and Giovanni - I couldn't live without either

Hmm... Still educating myself in opera but will fill in what I can!
Opera I hate: Boris Godunov. Boring and the music felt samey. Not even the wonderful Bryn Terfel could save it.
Opera I think is overrated: La Boheme (irritating woman suffers protracted death through illness, yawn). See also La Traviata.
Opera I think is underrated: I don't really have the knowledge for this - but I will say I'd like to see The Queen of Spades put on more often in the UK.
Opera I love: Don Giovanni. That, or Tosca.
Opera I cherish: Eugene Onegin. Just so much that is beautiful about the music. And what sounds like an occasionally mocking flute, the cheeky thing!
Guilty pleasure: l'Elisir d'amore
Opera I first saw: Eugene Onegin (in St Petersburg...ahhh!) First in the UK: Woyzeck
Opera I saw most recently: Il Trovatore
Greatest opening: I seem to remember Rigoletto being quite impressive visually ;-)
Greatest ending: Krol Roger. After about 80 minutes of struggling valiantly through the score to find a tune, the orchestra and the baritone finally hit pay dirt in the last 30-60 seconds...So much power and hope in those final notes.

Opera I Love: Jerry Springer The Opera
Opera I Cherish: Jerry Springer The Opera
Guilty Pleasure: Jerry Springer The Opera
Opera that I first saw: Jerry Springer The Opera
Opera I saw most recently: The Threepenny Opera
Greatest Opening: Jerry Springer The Opera
Greatest Ending: Jerry Springer The Opera
Greatest Opera of all time: Jerry Springer The Opera

This is an interesting new thread, but before an admin or mod says so, should it not be in the "Opera And Dance" section?

I suppose Musical/Play That I... is in the general chat section, so I guess maybe it felt natural to put this here too?
