From the body bag, it looks pretty clear that the assailant is dead.
Seems that they drove a black Hyundai into people on Westminster Bridge, then into the railings near Parliament, stabbed a police officer and was then was shot dead.
At least 4 lying injured on Westminster Bridge
Sounds like it is over as an incident - but it will have ramifications for some time to come

Met Police twitter feed says ... so travel outside those areas should be OK. The Southbank Centre has said it's closed tonight as a result ... Possibly due to proximity to Westminster Bridge? I guess it's possible this may impact other venues, particularly the National Theatre. Stay safe everybody!

Am I gonna be ok travelling back into Central tonight for 42nd Street? Yes, of course you are. I suspect you are too young to remember the IRA, but London just got on around far, far worse. If you stop, they win. End of. Agree. I lived in London at the height oF the IRA. We just got on with it and had to do an awful lot of walking.

I have just traveled on tube through Westminster (closed) station and walked up from Embankment to the ROH. No problems at all.

Don't think there should be much impact beyond the immediate area in terms of transport

Stay safe, everyone. I told my friends to either walk or uber it, if anything to avoid the madness in the and the stress in the tube today. Much love

Watching the news, just announced one person dead! I'm off work this week so not in the West End today.
The West End is close to the incident, if you are travelling by tube you should be fine. Buses will be affected, just be prepared to walk!
Another oldie here, we don't let them terrorise us in London. I recall not being able to get to the Prince Edward in the 1990's for a matinee. There was a group of techies, turns and foh staff from various shows all in the Sainsbury wing of the National Gallery. We were in good spirits and did the whole we could put the show right here! There were a lot of matinees cancelled that day, because no one could get to work!

Best to avoid the Westminster area while it's on lockdown, especially if you're carrying a rucksack or wearing a heavy jacket.
Remember what happened to Jean Charles de Menezez. They could do it to you too.

I lived in London at the height oF the IRA. We just got on with it and had to do an awful lot of walking and learn all the side streets. Come to think of it, London was just far more dangerous then, anyway. These days, I think nothing of walking along Dean or Brewer Street at night, back in the 80s, you just wouldn't. True but there was something interesting about the sleaziness of Soho. Or was that just me lol

And there was rather more danger during the Blitz.

I still remember innocently wondering why anyone would want to put that they were a "model" on the doorbell of their flat... ah, sweet innocence. It is nicer now that you have a better than 90% chance of not requiring facial plastic surgery and keeping your wallet at the end of the night, though. [br And where did they buy the red light bulbs?

Ah, but working in Frith Street in early 1980's I saw a lot of "Stuff". The woman walking down the road at 8.30 am in nothing but a towel ... got into work and said to a colleague "you won't believe what I just saw" - naked woman with a towel, he said. Because he'd seen her a few minutes later when she dropped the towel.
It's really extraordinary the cr*p we just got on with in the days of the IRA, working near Oxford Circus in 1976 when they'd shut down the tubes; the bomb at Staples Corner in 1992 shook the windows of my flat in Wembley 2 miles away...
My son works at the Houses of Parliament. He's on lockdown in the gym, in their basement (he works in the gym) - no telephone service but he's put a message on facebook he's OK. Still waiting to talk to him, but he'll be fine.

Kind of ironic that Martin McGuiness died yesterday and we have this terror incident today, the new age replacing the old age.
However how sad it is that one person has lost their life (not if it is the perpetrator though) and others have got "horrific injuries", it is clear that the terrorist/s have failed in their ultimate quest, which is reassuring.
There are going to be famillies tonight, whose lives has been devastated and changed forever, by someone/s who has got a very warped ideology, but with no clear endgame.

I have filled in a complaint form on the BBC website about their TV coverage....it is so disrespectful to show dead bodies (even covered over), people being treated by paramedics and people being taken to ambulances. And then random footage from people's mobile phones? And fatuous interviews with people who saw things...when did news reporting become so bad. What we actually need is not shots from helicopters but the facts that we know so far, any information that is useful (road closed, transport changes etc) and comment from people in authority. As far as travelling to London for theatre I refuse to let them win...I will carry on as normal.

Royal Court and Young Vic have confirmed performances are going ahead
Details of the attack on Radio 4 sound awful - now sounds that the car came from the Southbank across Westminster Bridge and at some point mounted the pavement.

I was watching Sky News about an hour after the attack in the hope that the dreadful but fascinating Kay Burley (no relation!) would turn up like the Angel of Death like she usually does, when the reporter said in hushed tones "there is a crisp edge of tension amongst the emergency services and police here at Westminster..." the camera then pans round to show a couple of ambulance men laughing, with their hands in their pockets. What happened is bad enough, we don't need the news media milking the drama out of it. Just stick to the facts please.
