Casting to be announced soon (and hopefully some additional venues, but that might not be until autumn). I think we will be getting quier a few new/fresh/relatively unknown faces and maybe a few from the previous tour rejoining. Any predictions? Soon as in Baz tonight or soon as in a few weeks?

I've heard Samuel Holmes may be Farquaad for this tour, but not 100% sure!

Mel B as Fiona? She needs the money She is a judge on America's Got Talent...she makes bank with that gig. And she was just Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway I also think she's getting $50,000 a month spousal/child support

I mean, I can spend money with the best of them, but even I'd struggle to find more handbags to buy beyond 10 million or so... . Think Brewster's Millions!

Wayne Rooney as Shrek, in this gender neutral casting era Nicola Sturgeon or Jeanette Krankie as Farquaad. Seriously though how about the girl who has just left Kinky Boots - Elena Skye as Fiona or Sarah Middleton who recently appeared in Hypocrite at RSC.

^^ now now that's not very nice is it? We try to discourage derogatory comments about people's appearance. Lack of talent however, go for it

Does anyone know who is producing this? I see Dreamworks Theatricals but there's no sign of them on the web as such, not unless they just operate under Dreamworks animation. Anyone know who the UK tour producer/operator is? Thanks!

I've no doubt he'll be hilarious. Interesting though, as in Nigel Harman's eyes, having played the role and now directing, there's a thin line with Farquaad. He's camp and loves musical theatre, but not gay. Of course that's well within his abilities, but it will be interesting to see how Samuel plays it!

Am I the only one who thinks the woman playing Fiona might be a little bit too old? I'll reserve judgment until I see it but I've seen her on Call the Midwife and she seems to play older well

Having just had a skim of Laura's theatre credits, it seems to have been done on talent - she's done Company at Southark, State Fair at Trafalgar Studios, and did some theatre work as a child. Personally, I don't have a problem with Fiona being a little older - yes Holden played her (may we forget that... - IMO) so I think it might suit!

Really excited about Laura Main being cast. I may well have to go and see this just to hear her sing. I haven't seen her on a stage for ages, last time was State Fair (and I think Me and Juliet shortly after). A lovely actress and singer. Glad they've cast someone strong for the lead, glad for her too.

When I first read that Laura was Fiona, I thought she may be a bit on the "mature" side but she is only 36 and looks differently from the rather dowdy character she plays on Call the Midwife. With Bronte Barbe and Faye Brooks having played the role in recent years we may have grown used to a younger Fiona. But Amanda Holden was 40 years old when she was the original UK Fiona and Kimberley Walsh was in her 30's when she played Fiona so Laura isn't too old in that respect.
I've never heard Laura sing so it will be interesting to see what she is like.

With Laura only scheduled to do 14 out of the 23 venues am I right in presuming they'll get another actress to perform the other venues? Seems a lot of shows for it to be covered by the understudies? If they do I wonder why they haven't announced it at the same time as Laura. Samuel is brilliant casting though, cannot wait to see how he's going to play this role.

Amelia Lilly is the other Fiona. How lovely. Fresh from her stint on 'Celebrity Big Brother'. Marvellous.

I sort of thought it would be Amelia Lily, don't know why, but I came across that Children in Need performance she did with the London cast last week, and thought she would end up playing Fiona eventually.
