Shaun Escoffrey should be Curtis and would love to see Cynthia Erivo as Deena, I'm just praying they don't cast Alexia Khadime as she seems to get plenty of leads but has a voice which I find really grating! Cynthia is a great performer but I'm kind of fed up with her being the default. I would rather she works on a solo album than does a new musical. Logistically I think this would be impossible anyway. She's still in Color Purple until October, and Dreamgirls previews in November.

I would lik to see Cynthia Erivo as Deena too and I think Alexia Khadmine could be linked to the third "dream" (I can't remember the name). I think they need also another rather big name to play Curtis.

But the that really is a dream. I hope they cast Lorrell as a relatively unknown name, with bags of rising star potential. Bob the Drag Queen anyone?

In fairness, the third one is the one no one really cares about haha.

I find Lorrell a great deal more sympathetic than Effie, and MUCH more interesting than Deena. Michelle's the one I feel *really* bad for, in terms of no one caring.

I had never seen the show or heard the music (other than "And I Am Telling You"!) before I saw the film... so my only point of reference with the characters is Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson. Which is tough as I am a huge fan of both and think they were amazing, even if they did make Deena a larger role so Beyoncé had more to do.

Kelly: "Stay outta this Michelle this is between Yoncé and me..." Michelle: "Yeah? Well it's between me too! I'm as much a part of this group as anybody else..." (Fades into silence and from memory) Bless. Gotta love an underdog. Oh I totally get you now. But the same could be said of Michelle Williams. Totally forgettable.

I always think of Destiny's Child as Beyoncé, Kelly... and the other one.

I always think of Destiny's Child as Beyoncé, Kelly... and the other one. They are a modern day Supremes really. Beyonce is clearly Miss Ross elbowing her way to the front, Kelly is poor old bitter Mary Wilson and Michelle would be Florence Ballard but she's probably not even as good as that so she must be bland Cindy Birdsong (who replaced Ballard). Oh the shame.

Lorrell is actually an okay character. She gets all the laughs and the humor, and has a major song ("Party, Party") that does not appear in the film.
In the confrontation scene, "It's All Over", all the girls get their fair share of sass and shade from "watch your mouth, Miss Effy White, cause I don't take that talk from no second rate diva who can't sustain" to "Who you callin' common you self-involved unprofessional to", "Effie I'm tired, of all the problems you makin' up...WHAT?".
Love it. Can't wait for some serious diva rage in that scene.

They should have had her sing a song from the show at the Oliviers. This is better:

It's All Over is probably my favourite number in the show. Lorrell has to have some serious chops to be able to sing 'Aint No Party' On the concert recording, Heather Headly was obviously unwell as her voice cracks way too many times during it. Tom89 - I love the suggestion of Bob The Drag Queen lol! Though i doubt anyone else will have a clue who we're talking about. Yes I am watching season 8 of Drag race

The show was so autotuned for no good reason a lot of the time (as most of them could sing very well anyway and really didn't need it) that i'm quite convinced she will sound even better live anyhow.

I am in two words if to book for this. I saw the film once but I was still quite young and I think it went over my head. When I get time I am going to watch the film again and then decide. I wonder if it will day seat?

I couldn't watch it without switching off, except for Effie's big number. Give it another go, definitely. It's become my favourite musical in recent years. I watched it again yesterday in fact, and I always weep at the final song. Do they welcome Effie back in the stage show too, does anyone know? It gets me every time.
