Inferring this from her latest tweet, but I think Karen may be sick too.

Marisha did the matinee. I don't think Karen has had a single show since she showed up.... In theory then, Karen should be doing the evening since Marisha had had pretty much a week of performances.

Scrap that, looks like Karen may be ill too. Could we get Marisha tonight, or will it be the understudy if Ruth has been bumped off?

I had tickets that day mid December when both shows were cancelled...re-booked for March but that's far too long to wait so I've booked to take my boyfriend as a surprise for his birthday (it's a weds night so I've made sure it's after the alternate changeover date as ideally want to see Amber, although let's be honest it's not looking likely!) I've got centre row A of the grand circle - how are these seats for Dreamgirls? We saw Legally Blonde and Gypsy from these seats and they were fine.. obviously I'd rather sit centre row F but don't want to pay thT sort of money so beggars and choosers and that.

Nothing to compare with as not seen Amber playing Effie but certainly no complaints this afternoon about Marisha. I thought she was incredible. Very appreciative audience with full standing ovation at the end.
My only criticism was the volume in first half. Sat in Row F of Dress Curcle and it was deafening at times. Plenty of people commenting in interval that it was too loud. Given the sound system they have installed it seems a bit strange that the balance is so poor.

It's VERY high compared to most Grand Circles but it will be a clear view (apart from the bar) and nobody annoying in front of you.

I sat in row C and the view was clear as well, it doesn't feel too high up in my opinion! Bring a scarf though, there's a freezing cold draught from the street level entrance!

Do we know if Karen or Marisha went on for the evening show last night?

Has Ruth done any shows? or is she no longer in the show... I seem to see a lot about everyone else going on, but nothing of her? (apologies if i've missed something... it's a long thread!)

Ruth hasn't done a single show yet. Karen was the main alternate when Amber was well, but now Amber is resting, Marisha has pretty much played the role in every performance since she joined the cast in the week between Christmas and New Year. Actually, has Karen even done a show since Marisha joined? It does make me think that, on Amber's return, this will make Marisha lead alternate and Karen the second alternate.

What's the point in having multiple alternates if they're not going to be fairly splitting shows? Why not just have one alternate and then girls in the ensemble cover it too?? Seems ridiculous...maybe it's just a cover up to get rid of Karen as there was a lot of rumours that producers didn't like her.

It all goes to prove how relevant Dreamgirls remains as a story and cautionary tale. I don't think there's any ensemble role a 'larger' lady has to play, so I don't think that would work.

Book of Mormon has two standby Cunninghams, yet one of them has probably only been on 5 or 6 times in the two years that he's been in the cast

People keep commenting how it is a shame Ruth has not been on. Surely if she's not up to the role, it's good she's not been allowed on. With all the casting problems, if she was good, she would have been on. I wouldn't be happy if I paid to see a show and the actor was not up to the role.

This is getting really ugly. I would like to point out though that the showbizz world (especially musical) can be a snake pit. The fact that Ruth has not been on can have many reasons. I have seen people being kicked out of shows because the resident director had a personal thing against them. And then a week later, seeing the person who replaced this person being a good friend of that same resident director who desperately wanted to be in the show. Etc, etc. I also have seen even nastier stories that i won't even post on this forum.
So let's not jump to conclusions too fast.

Or at least we didn't have that level of low-down dirty dealing in mind. Not until you just mentioned it anyway! I think we were just assuming she hadn't worked out for whatever reason.

It all makes sense from a business point of view - it could have been a big PR disaster that the leading lady whom all the marketing has been based on was out so early in the show. And let's be honest, the initial reactions to Karen weren't great, although I understand she's been getting better and better (I should add that I haven't seen Karen, but I know her from X factor and there is no doubt she is a stunning singer). But if you had the opportunity to bring in someone who is sensational to fill the gap, then you would. I was really disapointed not to see Amber but this lasted seconds once I could see how good Marisha was going to be. So whereas I do feel that Karen and especially Ruth have been treated roughly here, from a customer satisfaction level which can equate to repeat bookings and word of mouth it is a no brainer.

I do feel SFP is pretty ruthless as a producer. Agree with Burley's point in the Taking the absolute P. thread. There always seems to be a drama around her shows lately.

I also think the use of the term 'standby/alternate' is just to calm the situation when people kick off that Amber isn't on. 'Understudy' doesn't sound quite so good.

What irks me though (and I may have said this before so forgive repetition if so) these bloody producers hard hard hard sell the show on a particular name, then the minute something goes wrong start acting like it's the show that matters not the star. Disingenuous doesn't even cover it.
