I think Effie has enough to sing during the show, so in terms of giving the star material, that's covered. I think it will all depend on Nicholaw's approach and how he treats the book.

Wasn't Listen written for the film anyway? Yep. Not for Deena though, but for Beyoncé.

I'm with george22 on this. Beyonce's rendition is fabulous and I would rather it stays a solo.

'Listen' as a solo gives Deena's story a much better arc. I haven't heard it as a duet though I hope it still tells the same story.

The duet is on YouTube from the US tour. I think it works really well, and has fantastic lyrics.

So they advertise it includes the song Listen, but it's not the song people know and expect, it's the same title, same tune, completely different lyrics...

Yes - when I first heard the duet version I was sold and fell in love with the lyrics! Its definitely very story telling for both Deena and Effie's journeys

I love the duet version and the lyrics overall, but the film version is a statement from Deena, breaking loose from her man, finally she stands up for herself and the message "listen" is very powerful, and repeating that word stands for "Listen to me now, this is how it's gonna be, now it's my turn to speak and I want you to listen". I think the song is essential for Deena's character development.( I believe this whole arc was covered in the original musical version in 1 sentence, something like "there comes a time, when a woman has to grow, etc). "Listen" is much more powerful.
The duet version is kind of cute, and I love the fact that there is this moment between Deena and Effie, but repeating the word "listen" does not make any sense in this case. It's more like "listen to my advice baby girl, listen to moma, and vice versa" More like in a general speaking way, speaking about how they feel and what they've been through, but clearly they are already listening to eachother. So the song should have a different title if done in this case. There's no need to say 'listen' 10 times in the middle of your girl bonding time as it doesn't make sense.
On the other hand. If done by Deena alone, singing it to her man as a statement, on stage, one could argue that it is just another version of "And I am telling you", making a statement to your man that you want things to go your way. And I am telling you this and i want you to listen.
Edit: The best thing would be to combine both things. Maybe at 3/4 of the duet, after "you should do it today", seeing Deena go to her man and singing the verse to him, to see her actually do it, like in the film, and then going back to effie joining in for the last line, looking from the side, or him witnessing both girls singing, or something like that. Or maybe some kind of reprise of the song. Or maybe an instrumental part near the end of the song where we see a scene of Deena and her man fighting which indicates that she said it to him. And then end up the song with Effie again.

^ right, I read a while ago that Krieiger is writing a new opening for Act II, which is needed because the Broadway version is a slightly lazy megamix of songs in Act I. Kind of interesting that he'll have Side Show and Dreamgirls-both for the first time in the UK-playing simultaneously. Wouldn't be surprised if he visits both.

Out of these, which one is the best option? Is there any other site I can find tickets? And I was thinking in trying to see the Harry Potter play in Dec. 07, I didn't want to miss the play, so If I can see Dreamgirls in other date it would be better. Sorry to bother about seats, btw, but I'm really in doubt. I've still got a seat for sale on the 3rd Dec, it's row B in the stalls PM me if you are interested

I loved how she recruited Casey NIchlaw! Would there be a video of the press conference anywhere? And I wonder who starred in the Leicester one-night only concert.

Yea, sounds like another stupid lottery instead of proper dayseats. Glad then I forked out for a full price stalls seat when I did.

Hard to tell. All I see from the Savoy FB page is beams and what looks like tracks. Haven't seen any pieces that could give us an indication of what it will actually look like.

How awkward being a lottery. Advantage being I don't have to sit outside ridiculously early in winter, but the drawback being that I like to have my slots filled (ooooh matron) for a day so I am not sat anxiously waiting, especially when I don't live close enough to London to get there if I win.

The set for this looks huge! Where are you seeing this? I've heard it's pretty much the same as the original production.. a series of revolving lighting towers
