This thread is slowly turning into the “my Elphaba is better than your Elphaba” debate with a single voice trying to shut down anyone else’s opinion! Mabye stop indirecting and say it with abit of chest that your alluding to me. Last time I critiqued Amber’s attendance I was told that I was “distateful”. But then everybody is bashing Samira because she doenst fit your idealism, ridicolous. Everybody here has a rather large ego thinking they are above samira because she went to a “cheap” show and that nobody literally gives her credit. Double standards. And I wouldn’t be the only person who would stop posting in here because of drama queens. Amber MISSED shows because of mental and physical health issues and death, Samira QUIT HER CONTRACT to join a TV show. See the difference?

And no one is bashing Samira, the general theme of the thread is people disagreeing that she’s now some kind of household name who is going to land a major role, along with comments that for some people she’s been disrespectful to both her employers leaving contracts early. They are both opinion. You disagree. That’s fine. But don’t keep directly challenging people to your way of thinking, you’re clearly a fan of Samira - that’s fine too, just respect other people’s right not to be!

And what should we be giving her credit for exactly?? She gave up a career to prance around in the sun in a bikini. YAY! Well done Samira! You're now a D List celebrity.

Oh my. And the lesson for today.
Please note the pink speedos, the trip to Mykonos, the reference to Jackie O. This, my friends, is what we call a "homosexual".
Annoying isn't it? All I seem to pick on the beach is sand in my shorts and a jellyfish sting.

I wonder how they’ll adapt the set for tour?
It seems quite hard to transport the crystal drops and all the mechanics to make it fly into a circle!!
Also, how will do the microphones (as they come out of the stage in London) on tour? Will they track on further upstage?
I reckon the physical dimensions won’t change, as the Savoy stage is relatively small comapred with major regional houses! Does this mean that due to the smaller size it could visit smaller receiving venues?

Oh lovely. Sierra Boggess and I were talking about this and we plan to share the role of Effie White. She's my alternate, natch. I don't do matinées.

Thank goodness “I’m the new girl” was cut. I much prefer the idea of Michelle being a passive ten-a-penny replacement with nothing much about her. It makes Effie’s story all the more rich. Plus the song is pretty terrible.

Every man has his own special dream, and mine is Marisha Wallace! I was so happy to finally see her in Dreamgirls after being a fan of her since she first came over and she exceeded all expectations. People saying that you need to hear her voice live to judge it are definitely right, hearing her in the theatre she sounded amazing and definitely not like in the dodgy video from last year’s West End Live for example. To add to her incredible vocals she also had an amazing characterisation of Effie, really showing her journey from bright-eyed young girl to heartbroken young woman to strong independent woman, she had an infectious smile during all the more “happy” songs and heartbreaking facial expressions during Effie’s lower moments. Amber Riley I think still has the slightly better voice but Marisha is leaps and bounds ahead acting-wise and to me simply IS Effie. I really enjoyed Brennyn’s performance too and I think her voice had a nicer tone to it than Liisi’s but I think I slightly prefer Liisi as the overall package. Asmeret was a treat to watch as she was the first time I saw the show. She’s hilarious and really makes the arguably smaller role of Lorrell really stand out. I really enjoyed her Ain’t No Party and she’s just genreally an absolute star. We had Ryan Reid as Curtis and we really enjoyed him, great voice and presence and also dancing skills in Steppin’ To The Bad Side though from Row K in the stalls we could see pints of sweat flying from his face every time he turned. I know it’s a hot summer but I’ve never seen so much sweat from one person, definitely not the most pleasent thing I’ve seen on stage! I did kind of miss Joe Aaron Reid as Curtis in some ways. Rohan was also on as Jimmy who obviously didn’t compare to Adam J Bernard but was still brilliant, especially vocally. We haven’t seen Tosh to compare to Rohan but we all agreed that Rohan was definitely of a standard to be lead (maybe he could do the tour?) Durone Stokes as CC was better than I thought he would be, I was thinking I’d really miss Tyrone Huntley’s voice but I thought Durone was pretty good to be fair. We had Kirk Patterson as Marty who I’d seen before and he was good, not really much to say about Marty. I think Kimmy Edwards is definitely a huge improvement on Lily Frazer as Michelle Morrris but being honest Michelle really doesn’t have much to do!
We had a really fantastic night overall, I’d forgotten how brilliant the score is and I found myself really enjoying some of the songs that I hadn’t before and the costumes are just to die for. Plus the finale staging really is so beautifully done I think. It’s such a shame that this fantastic show is closing but I hope to see it many, many times on tour!

How do they even do that crystal curtain that flies into a circle?? If you watch the ‘Dreamgirls Fit-up’ on the Savoy’s Vimeo page you’ll see. Basically, it’s lots of little black poles that, with the help of automation, lift up the individual chains of crystals. With this, they can lift each separate chain into its own height, making the circle!

How popular is this show with dayseats? Is it one you have to get mega early for or just one you could go to around half an hour before box office opens?

If you aren't fussy and avoid weekends, you should be fine outside school holidays. Allow an extra hour if the kids are out of jail. thank you! What time would you recommend getting there then? Also, is it just the front row they sell for day seats? £20 right? Will they sell other unsold seats too for that price?

No, it's "box office discretion," so you could get anything at all - quite often side or mid to rear stalls. They'll sell as many as they are allowed at the price. To be sure, be there around 8.30am, though 9am is fine for most days Monday to Thursday. thank you so much! Side stalls are great in this theatre so that sounds great, I thought it was just front row like most theatres. Are they all £20 though? Thanks so much

Just seen that Samira has apparently said she doesn't plan on returning to the West End because she doesn't want to be "in the background" anymore.
Bless her heart.
