It's sad but also bring the opportunity for another show to take it's place which us exciting. Or could be exciting. In this climate it's libel to be the tour of Evita again or something stupid.

Aww this is sad. I was expecting it to be a long runner, 5-6 years. But it's had a decent run.
Hoping they open DEH or Come From Away next. Or maybe the awaited Groundhog Day transfer.

Sad to see this leave but not surprised, considering the recent offers. Since Amber left it was only a matter of time really. The tour sounds exciting, but it all depends who is travelling with it... maybe Ruth’s finally got this?
I would love to see Mean Girls but on the other hand I feel like I’ve been waiting too long already for older shows (Waitress, DEH and Come From Away) to transfer so I’d feel a tad cheated if the fledgling that is MG transferred before. I can see that being the case though, unless they throw in a filler until it’s ready.

So Dresmgirls is closing, but yet though somehow THRILLER keeps on going. How is this even possible?

For touring, I would imagine the usual suspects such as Liverpool Empire or Manchester Opera House / Palace would surely be on the northern venues list?

I don't know if this has been said on here, as I know originally Marisha and Moya were switching between Wednesday performances, but Marisha as just tweeted she is now doing every evening performance bar Friday nights. Therefore Moya does the matinee on Wednesdays officially.

I still don't understand why would you leave your dreamjob for a TV show like Love Island. But hey, I guess not everyone has the same priorities in life. Well, now you know!

I'm confused, has it posted closure or are we just speculating? The closure announcement is hidden in the tour annoucement. UK tour announcement and a cheeky West End closure announced in there too!

Judging by her Twitter it sounds as if Marisha will be staying until it closes, so I expect she'll do closing night.

I’m going to finally take advantage of the Under25-Tuesday offer so I can see the show before it closes but I want to make sure I see Marisha. Does anyone know if she has any holiday planned in the final weeks of July (24th and 31st)?

So something has been playing on my mind the past couple hours, maybe out of boredom and the news of closure... but is Effie really the lead character in Dreamgirls? This may sound stupid, but think about it. Yes she sings three of the biggest solos in the show, but she is barely in Act 2 (she literally comes on to sing I Am Changing, One Night Only, Listen and then the Finale) and in the first Act, she is on equal footing with the other two girls apart from she gets to sing And I Am Telling You. Surely, the real lead of Dreamgirls is in fact Deena? She does the same stuff Effie does in Act 1 bar And I Am Telling You, and she gets to do more than Effie in Act 2, has alot more stage time and gets to be the showgirl, centre of attention which you don't really get from Effie in Act 1 in the same sense. When the movie came out, Jennifer Hudson was bumped down to Supporting so Beyonce had a chance at Lead at award shows. I'm kinda inclined to agree. Thoughts?

I guess both Deena and Effie are the leads, the Tonys certainly put both in the Lead Actress category. Effie is probably seen more as the lead because she gets THE big numbers and the show is driven by her story really.
And it's based on The Supremes story of course but if you EVER tried to tell Miss Ross that Florence Ballard was equal to her she would rip your throat out, put it back in and rip it out again.

When the movie came out, Jennifer Hudson was bumped down to Supporting so Beyonce had a chance at Lead at award shows. I'm kinda inclined to agree. Thoughts? JHud was also put in Supporting because it was a better chance of winning. The category that year was pretty weak whereas Best Actress was a winners parade for Helen Mirren as Her Maj and there wasn't a chance in Hell that anyone would beat her to that prize, not even Hudson. Beyonce was also pretty bland in the film too so it's no surprise she wasn't nominated. The downgrading of the category for JHud was commented on a lot at the time that it had obvious parallels to the story itself with the "talent" being sidelined in favour of the "golden girl". I'll bet Beyonce was spitting feathers backstage. I wouldn't have wanted to have been in a lift with her that night.
