King George is a blink and you'll miss it affair yet Clare Halse grafts on stage that entire show and nothing. Yes, I am still bitter about this!

Tracie Bennett was all over the place. I know she was given free reign to do what she liked during the run of Follies, but tonight's performance wasn't great.
I'm glad to see the awards spread between so many shows.

Oh that's harsh folks. I think she's doing well and the performances so far have been very slick. The performances have been great, and the pacing is good (I could do without the ad breaks, though). So far - I'm about half an hour behind - it seems to be less excruciatingly dreadful than the telecast has been in previous years, and they've done a reasonably good job of filming the musical numbers. Compared to some of their past horrors, this is a big step up.

Loved the broadcast and very happy with (most of) the winners! Great evening all round!

I’m just home from tonight - I had a really amazing evening. This was my first year at the ceremony, and the first year where I felt personally invested in it (I had a friend that was in Follies). I also saw a large portion of what was on offer, so was glad that I went.
People may not have been happy with Catherine Tate, but I felt she did really well - and was certainly well received in the room. Yes she swore several times but rectified that as soon as she realised she was on the radio too. She was possibly a little out of her depth, but I thought she was good.
Overall, I’m relatively happy with the results. Some of my favourites didint win (Janie Dee, Tracie Bennett, Cleve September and the Angels boys - James and Andrew being my specifics) but fully appreciate why Shirley Henderson and Sheila Atim did - GFTNC was riveting. I’m thrilled Giles won for Hamilton. I yelled about it from the second I saw him and am so glad. But if tonight did anything, it gave Clare Halse the opportunity to go ‘hey look I’m bloody brilliant and should be in this cateogry’ By closing act 1 in such a perfect way.

In the FB Interval show, ALW praises Broadway and its energy, even though he has a new London theatre, and implicitly gives the West End short shrift

Weird that people keep putting an S on HAMILTON producer Jeff Seller's surname, as if he were related to Peter Sellers. Weird, too, that Giles Terara (in the TV bit at least) in his acceptance speech didn't mention fellow nominee Jamael Westman but maybe that was cut? (Westman was on his feet applauding Terera's win). Also weird that the aforementioned Jeff Seller thinks Giles's first name is pronounced Gilles, as if he were French. Oh well. Roll on next year when hopefully there will be no preordained hit like HARRY POTTER last year or HAMILTON this year.
And Dominic Cooke should have given Tracie Bennett some guidance tonight. That was not an attractive performance of that song. (She was brilliant in the show itself.)

I don’t know if it says more about the ceremony or me as a person that the most exciting part of the night for me was Patti LuPone unexpectedly turning up to present an award.

How did Michael Jibson win ? It is such a small character, not even worthy of being a supporting actor. He plays the role well, but the role shouldn't even be nominated, never mind winning. The actor who played George Washington should have been nominated instead in my opinion.

Catherine Tate was the wrong host. The awards given out were a bit too predictable. Oh well, maybe next year.

(Westman was on his feet applauding Terera's win) Giles mentioned the whole cast as one, he didn't single anyone out. And the whole cast were on their feet for him, not just Jamael.

I enjoyed it on tv, for the most part, but tv-wise it still comes across as a poor cousin to the Tony Awards. Partly the significant edits giving it all a fragmented feel, and sometimes the staging from the shows not coming across well when cameras go a touch mad. Not sure Catherine Tate was needed ( and I am a fan of hers) but it was nonetheless enjoyable.
I rarely worry to the point of obsession who the winners are (nobody was robbed, the world still turns....) but I was pleased for Giles Terera who shines in a very strong cast each time I have seen Hamilton.
Wonderful to see Linzi H again.
But the thrill of seeing Patti LuPone walk out on the stage. Last time I saw her was in a restaurant in New York at the next table: (I even had to point out to my hubby who she was....!). Call me an old theatre queen, but I practically gave her a standing ovation in my lounge when she came onstage!

I'm offended that Cranston won the award over Garfield.
Staunton losing both awards, geez!

We enjoyed tonight. Catherine Tate seemed to be having a bit of a mare though starting literally at the top of the evening when she came on to say hello then raced off leaving Hamilton star Giles Terera waiting for what seemed forever to start the opening number then she came rushing back on because she forgot to introduce the President of Society of London theatre - who should’ve been before Hamilton. Cue Aaron Burr shuffling away again 😂 Oops! Bless her think she was a bit out of her depth. Bit slicker last year with Jason Manford helming. Good performances by all the featured musicals Sheila Atim stole it with her performance from GFTNC. Jamie came off a little poorly compared to the other performances looked a little lost on the huge stage and the sound mixing was appalling on that one could barely hear the words in the circle unfortunately so that didn’t really help :-( Great speeches on the increasing diversity onstage in the UK now. Shame they didn’t celebrate the Be Inspired champions members of the public a bit more like they did last year and show their videos. They were a bit of a footnote...and they’ve dispensed with the goody bags. Sacrilege - was looking forward to that bag of artisan chocolate for my £85! 😉

(Especially Garfield) Cranston was my pick to win. The technical elements of that production make his role enormously difficult and demanding in ways that just don't apply to any of the other nominees in that category, and he navigates them effortlessly and delivers a thrilling star turn. It's a very, very well-deserved win against formidable competition.

Jamie came off very well on the FB broadcast..... Maybe it worked better on screen with proper sound. They looked a bit swamped by the huge stage and we couldn’t hear them 😢 loved it onstage at its proper home! Looking forward to seeing how it all translates to screen when we watch the ITV broadcast back

I thought Girl from North Country was a play with music - but it's in the "musical" categories?

Knew I was in for a bad night when a sodding Qdos panto won a sodding Larry. At least David Lan’s special award was broadcast in full, he is such a talented man and absolutely fantastic to work with. And was it me or were a lot of the performers a touch out of tune? Must be difficult to find your note with such a big ochrestra behind you, but doesn’t give a good advert for your show. I too am hoping next year is a lot more guessing and less silly choices. I mean, King George, really? Ah well...

Network’s technical wizardry made Cranston’s performance. On its own it was perfectly solid but aimed more at the screen than the back of the auditorium. It didn’t really fill the space when needed, maybe it looked better in the front stalls.

What happened to the audience award? Was it retired?

The Joseph tribute was very nice - even though I have no idea who any of the all-stars were! (Yes, I'm a provincial Yankee living in the States)
