On tonight with La La Land tipped to win lots of awards. I think just a few films and actors have been shun this year in favour of less rewarding nominees, imho.
Who do people want to win awards? [

I think it's a weak year overall. I've seen most of the nominated films and my favourites were Hell or High Water, Arrival and Hidden Figures.
I do think Emma Stone and Casey Affleck are worthy, as are Michelle Williams, Amy Adams and Viola Davis, but the overall quality of the films is way down on last year.

Hidden Figures is only up for best adapted screenplay which really gets to me. Atleast one of the 3 main women should be up, don't you think? Viola is incredible as was Naomie Harris in Moonlight

I do agree with you but then again Janelle could have been nominated as could've Octavia or Taraji. It's still nice to be be nominated even if you don't win, you still then know you've been recognised for your work and get to go to the awards and have a good time. The film should've been nominated for best picture too like at the Oscars. It's bad Taraji has been overlooked before and I read in Baz's column that Denzel Washington has never been recognised by BAFTA

I've never really seen the point of the BAFTA Awards, except as a way of making sure that British people and product get awards.

I haven't seen the film but I think Viola Davis is a brilliant actress. That's the only award I care about this year.
I hope she'll do a play in London soon although she's very busy.
Apparently Denzel Washington has never been nominated for a BAFTA.

Oops. Sorry, must've missed that post about Denzel. Sorry @london!!!
He's a fantastic actor, I don't think it's a race thing though.

No problem!
I don't think the BAFTAS are racists at all, I just think it's strange how Hidden Figures hardly got any nods for their actresses when it got 3 Oscar noms. They seem to go for more obscure, less known films like I, Daniel Blake and Nocturnal Animals

There's also an obvious, and probably justified British bias.
Maybe he's too 'American.' I don't see it myself.

Can't agree that it's been a bad year. Moonlight, Jackie, La La Land, Arrival and 20th Century Women were all great.
Thought the only great performance in Hidden Figures was Janelle Monae. It's nothing exceptional in terms of filmmaking/storytelling either. There's something very off about Denzel never being nominated though. He's won 2 Oscars.

I was upset Hidden Figures didn't win but glad Jungle Book did. Sad Naomie didn't win as I want her to get recognition but pleased for Viola.

Proper and fitting that they ended the Farewell to the Greats with our very own Great John Hurt...

Great actress and certainly doesn't look 40. Her performance in Moonlight looks amazing

As I say, I'm always willing to give an actor a second (or in her case, fourth) chance. I wanted to see Moonlight anyway, so that'll be a good opportunity to see this performance.

I think she's very underrated and would like to see her get more recognition for her work. Would like to see her do another play in London. Hope she continues being Miss Moneypenny in future Bond films too!

Moonlight is my favourite film of all time. And I see a lot of films. Everyone should go and see it.

How is it better than Carry On Spying? Is such a thing possible?

Felt sorry for the Moonlight gang who were completely overlooked by the over hyped La La Land. Once a film has momentum everything else gets overlooked. Emma Stone getting best actress. Really? It will be the most undeserving Oscar if she wins that!

I hope there's a few surprises at the Oscars. It's been quite boring in recent years.
