Today is my birthday. Yesterday I did a day trip to London to see my friend in Mamma Mia, today I’ve been in rehearsals for the next show I’m directing, been out for a lovely Sunday lunch and now waiting for friends to arrive for a pub quiz. Birthdays can be a bit rubbish when you’re older but all in all, it’s been pretty nice. Happy Birthday ronnette 🎂

Something happened to me this afternoon that hasn't happened to BurlyBeaR for a very long time. At approximately 3.30pm, a shop assistant in Home Bargain called me a "young man". So there we are. It's now official. If only they sold fondant fancies! And to cap an almost perfect day, I've just been inches away from the lovely Hazel Irvine. She asked for a photograph, but I have a strict no-selfie policy. 😁

Was that the oldest Home Bargains employee in the country? Still bagging up at the tills aged 103?

When was the last time you were in an actual, physical shop, BurlyBeaR? Nobody has had their shopping 'bagged' for the last decade. Unless you ask for one, you don't even get a receipt anymore!

Latest fondant fancy news. Eight for £1.00 in the market today, the same price as 12 bakewell or angel slices, and a Hovis loaf for just 60p. In other news, lovely Hazel Irvine is wearing a very colourful pair of slacks. I'd call them cerise, though BurlyBeaR is the Board's colour expert.

£3 on Ocado. M&S do their own version, also £3.
That’s the in-date ones though.

Just caused a lot of confusion at Theatre Royal Drury Lane by saying I was in the Dress Circle, when actually I was in the Royal Circle!

Weather warning!
I've just put the summer quilt on the bed so expect gales and snow next week.

Northern Lights seem to have been visible over most of Britain last night. Couldn’t see a bloody thing where I live though. 🙁

I saw them by eye which was pretty amazing for London. I am often watching the statistics and when I'm in Devon if there's a chance of seeing them I'll go out. Most of the time you won't see them by eye in this country even when the statistics are high as our eyes aren't good enough at night. You just see lighter streaks in the sky but if you take a photo that's when the colours magically appear. Last night though it was so strong that you could see some colour by eye even in light polluted London.
Hope the storm continues and it's clear tonight.
