Dollop cream but spread jam? I tend to do the opposite... spread cream and dollop jam. (But I also toast my scones, too, once they're no longer fresh. Makes them edible again.)

Anyone else remove raisins from scones if cafes are misguided enough to include them or is that just me? Admittedly I am someone who chooses to buy hot cross buns & removes the raisins from them too.

I don't remove them, but I also don't want raisins or any other fruit in a scone that's being served with jam and cream. You serve plain scones with jam and cream; fruited scones are served split and toasted, with butter.

I'm following this discussion as a total outsider, and all I can think about now is how much I'm craving scones. Cheese ones, plain ones with jam and cream (my order of preference, if I can choose), with raisins - halved and toasted, with a slab of butter... I love them all. (I'll make sure to send BurlyBeaR the bill for new skirts/pants, since this Board will clearly be responsible for me getting out of this COVID-19 mess a few clothes sizes bigger.)

Nope, I will always choose fruit over plain if given the choice, and when baking them I usually put in more sultanas/raisins than the recipe suggests! Even better with raspberries or blueberries and chocolate instead of the raisins. I've never understood the appeal of savoury scones though.

I grew up in Devon and have absolutely no preference as to how cream and jam should be put on a scone. I like both ways! However if you are putting strawberries on scones then I prefer putting them on first, squishing them down with a fork (not too sure why I do this, guess it's just what I have always done) and putting cream on top, doing it the other way round would be a mess! With jam though I will do a mix of both, guess it probably just depends on if the jam or cream is closer to my plate!

You are eating in the wrong cafes, Dawnstar, if they serve scones with raisins. It's sultanas you should be picking out, especially in National Trust tea-rooms! 🙂 Whether plain or fruited, that type of scone bores me rigid. Greggs used to sell what it called a Derby Scone, which was actually more of a shortbread biscuit, with currants I think. Much nicer.

Scones with jam and clotted cream are one of the few things I really miss since giving up dairy.
You can sort-of do a dairy-free/vegan scone ok (they are not quite the same) but I’ve not yet found a good replacement for clotted cream. Cashew cream is no-where near close enough to satisfying thick creamy texture.

I can't say I really know the difference, after years of avoiding them. And it often is NT team-rooms! I'll swap you the discarded raisins for the candied fruit I remove from hot cross buns. I buy a variety of hot cross bun that has little/no candied peel in it, so at least that's one thing less to remove!

Really been missing the chat in the office (although I complained about it when I was there!) so I've been trying to ring at least 1 person a day instead of emailing.
Although not work-related, I decided to book for Hairspray and had a lovely chat with the friendly box office lady. Could have happily chatted for ages!

My morning got off to a delightful start when I was accosted outside Tesco by what I can only describe as the Karen to end all Karens. She was clearly triggered by my mask; apparently the virus is a hoax, anyone who wears a mask is an idiot, Trump will show us all the truth, and is saving the world by having people assassinated, and George Soros wants us all dead.
One of those people who has no idea she's completely barking mad. The anti-Semitism was a particularly unlovely touch, although it wasn't entirely surprising. And this was 7am, on very little sleep, before I'd had any coffee.

He's been waiting over three months for Greggs to reopen in MCR, and the day they do, true to form, it's pouring down. 🌧☔ There's nothing worse than eating a soggy sausage roll from a soggy paper bag, so he's had to don a disguise and take refuge in the Arndale Centre. 🙂 At least when you're in the Arndale Centre, you can't see the Arndale Centre, so every cloud and all that!
