Catching up on The Archers whilst on my morning walk, a pleasant time spent in a world without the Coronavirus.

ProBoards keeps offering me advertisements to take part in a consumer survey to win £250. The currency is right and the spelling is British English but the button to click says "clica aqui". Hmmm...

I realise I'm very late to the party, but Fleabag is excellent! I had completely the wrong impression of it from what I'd heard about it, thought it would be stupid and over the top, but it was just brilliant.

So I managed to sleep for about 6 hours on the flight down to India. First though I watched “The Art of Racing in the Rain” - what a film! Absolutely loved it. Once we landed, breakfast time and then we briefed for the inbound sector. The main focus obviously safety, not just with regards to Corona Virus but also ensuring everything is followed as normal. Once the passengers were on and we were headed back to LHR, crew split and breaks start - we need to achieve a big chunk of “sleep opportunity” due to the length of the duty. Sandwiches and refreshments given out and lots of chatting before my break time came - I wasn’t too sleepy so watched Jojo Rabbit - strange one, not sure what to make of it. 40 mins to landing, a quick sandwich and back on the ground, walking through Heathrow 24 hours after I had started.
4 days off now to do... nothing 🤣

Combining my daily exercise with buying essential supplies, I walked home from the shops through the park. Despite BJ's (rather than B&J's 😉) statement outside Number 10 this morning, you'd be forgiven for thinking that lockdown had already ended.
The yoof shelter was bursting at the seams with yoofs; the playground was full of kiddies, who must have thought climbing over the padlocked gate was all part of the fun; and there was a 10-a-side football match being played on the all weather pitch. ☹

Bloody idiots, it's a real eye opener this amongst the people I know as to who is complying with the rules and those are seem to think they don't apply to them or that they can 'bend' them or just take advantage of things you can technically do but really don't need to. I'm soon going to have to keep up with a whole lot less people.
Had nice quick chat at distance with a lady out on my walk about orchids, I am liking all the hellos we now do.
In my haste to watch nt quiz (absolute fail for me if it wasn't theatre related) I tipped my dinner into my freshly laundered bed. opps.

I'm eating a lot of potatoes. I don't know why but it might be slowly encroaching idleness.
Some days I feel like the astronaut on the journey to Mars who is woken up in his pod too soon. Or Matt Damon in The Martian, who also ate a lot of spuds. Spuds, spuds, glorious spuds.

Spuds, spuds, glorious spuds. Many people have forgotten that this was Sondheim's first draft lyric for the Witch, but was replaced with this due to concerns for low carb fans: "Greens green and nothing but green!"

I spent much of today worrying about the announcement yesterday that the government want people on furlough to do fruit picking. I was, to my considerable surprise, contacted by my temp agency last week & told I'm eligible for furloughing. I'm now terrified that I'll be told to go & do fruit picking.

Tried going for a walk for the first time since the lockdown started. Thought it'd be quieter in the rain & only walked repeatedly round my own road. Still had to avoid 4 people, 3 of them multiple times. I despair.

I find that when I’m using one, the other people get out of my way.

Do they really only eat chips once a week in Belgium? Funny bunch those continentals! 🙂

I feel not quite 35 is a bit young to start using a walking stick, given my impairments are mental rather than physical!

Well don't give up on the walks Dawnstar. Most people now are used to you avoiding them! When out walking it is now quite normal to either walk around someone or even cross the road occasionally. Being outdoors certainly does help your mental health and try and give it another go if you can.Today is the first day for ages I have not been out, but it has been raining all day here in the West Midlands.

And so it starts. Potentially 12,000 redundancies
To put it mildly, today has not been a good day.

I feel not quite 35 is a bit young to start using a walking stick, given my impairments are mental rather than physical! Sorry, I wasn’t trying to be rude. What about a long umbrella? Oh, I didn't think it came across as rude at all. I just felt I looked daft enough today suddenly swerving across the road or, in one case, literally turning around & running in the opposite direction, without carrying a walking stick as well! Well don't give up on the walks Dawnstar. Most people now are used to you avoiding them! When out walking it is now quite normal to either walk around someone or even cross the road occasionally. I'm not sure it is good for my mental health though. I was so stressed the whole time, constantly on the alret for anyone to appear & then having to try to best to avoid them when they did. I nearly started crying when I came round a corner & suddenly found that a man who I thought was at least 50 years ahead of me had evidently turned around & was coming towards me only a few feet away.

I guess it's not easy either way, but just do whatever makes you feel comfortable. I hope through time you will start to feel better and less stressed. I realise this situation isn't easy so don't feel any pressure to do anything that makes you feel stressed. Take care.

... When out walking it is now quite normal to either walk around someone or even cross the road occasionally. ... In London, I've seen a number of people walking in the middle of the road (or at least on the other side of parked cars from the sidewalk/pavement). I've been wondering if they're doing that to avoid other pedestrians on the sidewalk/pavement. (Sorry, American here and I'm not sure of the correct word!)

Yep, I've been doing that every day, it's really rather efficient! Traffic is ridiculously quiet compared to normal where I am in London, so it's usually possible. I can't get too stressed about it though, anyone walking past me will be within 2 metres of me for little more than a second, and if they don't cough then I'm really not bothered about the level of risk otherwise I'd never leave the house, and that isn't an option for my mental health.

Yes it's not going to be an easy time for many especially in various sectors likely to be hit hardest. Best wishes to everyone who is worried about their jobs and finances. Best just to take a day at a time at the moment until things become clearer.

I was watching a video the other day where a pilot was saying that he expects the airline industry in Europe will probably follow a similar path to that in North America after 9/11. For a short time people were reluctant to fly, small companies couldn't weather the storm and there was a period of consolidation. But the demand returned, and with it so did the need for all the skilled staff who'd met the demand before.
