Sat in national as wild weather in the south east meant trains all to pot so have come in early and am killing time. There's a man talking to some kind of art, possibly, group and telling them about the space. Who knew the carpet was listed? Designed by Olivier and super expensive to replace. The sort of wooden panelling effect on the concrete can't be repaired if damaged and 'should be treated like delicate Chinese wallpaper' and the atmosphere makes you both dehydrate and feel cold.
Wow this building really was a 'special' build.

The sort of wooden panelling effect on the concrete can't be repaired if damaged and 'should be treated like delicate Chinese wallpaper' I went to a conference on modernism last year, and the last speaker of the day spent 10 minutes, of his 15 minute slot, enthusing about the quality of the National's shuttering. I'm guessing our lynette wasn't part of the group?

😂😂😂😂😂 I cant actually laugh out loud cos my voice has gone! I’m giving up my overpriced tic for NT tonight cos I don’t want to cause an outbreak of plague in London. Imagine their pursuing me, the one who spread this horrendous germ! But you are so right, TallPaul, I’m no fan of the concrete bunker, shuttering or no shuttering.

You know your sinuses are giving you hell when you go to a bin to offload some used hankies, find it has "Dry" and "Wet" sections, and you hesitate over which to use!

You know your life has gone to pieces when the young woman till operator in Sainsbury's sympathises that you still have 8 working hours to go at 2pm. You did well to get a till person monkey, there was it appeared just 2 at the large Sainsburys i went to tonight, the queues were like it was Christmas. Had planned to do shop after getting back from theatre as was in area, got back to find my route home shut due to fireworks so decided to def go to Sainsburys, big mistake, took an age wandering round as it's not my normal one, did an attempt at trying on a dress over my clothes as no staff so shut changing rooms and then 30 half in queue and then they wouldn't even accept my vouchers even though I had bought the right wretched stuff. Went to the petrol station and went round twice and had to do weird reverse to find one that worked. 15 min route home took nearer 45 trying to find a way back not via shut firework roads, I went past a lot of giant mansions and swore at the satnav a lot. Shoved frozen meal in oven but it's still frozen so have snapped and eaten an entire packet of chocolate buttons. Trains going into London were actually not bad so could have shopped first if i'd known exciting as it was spending several hours staring at the wood effect walls at the national. V cross woman at old vic, she said she'd spent half an hour ensuring her ticket was accessible and got there to find she had to hike up the stage stairs, after she'd been directed down the stairs to the toilets, sorry loos, and not told about the lift. Play thank god was great. Going to look for frozen meal, it's probably melted by now.

I know most people here will join me in sending thoughts and prayers to WhatsOnS***e at this difficult time www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/statement-recent-events_50273.htmlThe sort of wooden panelling effect on the concrete can't be repaired if damaged Presumably because the effect is made by pouring the concrete in place into a wooden frame, so the surface keeps the grain of the wood. Unlike the Barbican where the surface of the concrete was achieved by (I think) drilling it after it had been poured.

Today I purchased a Senior Railcard, valid from Monday. Feeling old. Also posting more as I'm determined to get my five stars before Monday!

Trust you bought the 3-year version, which is cheaper as well as saving on renewals. Mine is as heavily-used as my annual Network cards were and possibly the only good thing about reaching 60.

Received 12 tines of chopped tomatoes and a sponsored cow for my birthday and there was me thinking no one would ever beat the year of the flavoured butter.

One half of the explanation if my mother who I believe I've mentioned before, the other half I don't really have one but can I recycle them as Christmas presents that aren't plastic and have a purpose?

Woke up yesterday hoping the dull thud between my jaw and the bottom right teeth had decided to move on, but it hadn't.
This was the same spot I'd previously been advised by my dentist to go to Kings and get properly resolved - Kings on Denmark Hill being the regional emergency/surgical centre of God-like people. So I phoned just after 8am hoping to kill two birds with one stone - the long-term thing and this current dull thud.
They saw me at 10am, said come back at 1:30 for surgery, and so I did. Over about 40 mins, they extracted two back most teeth (molars, I believe). The second took at least 20 minutes as they yanked my jaw between Peckham and Brixton and back about 3000 times. Then the assisting students stood back and the senior people literally destroyed it in situ instead - bits flying everywhere. Lots and lots to pick out from the remaining gum crater.
I felt like organising an annual meetup after that. Instead I got a gauze (in case it starting bleeding again) and some Ibu - no antibiotics these days. Ramming down the Ibu today so no idea of after effects.
Total cost was a filled in form, a handshake and my eternal indebtedness to those wonderful everyday angels at Kings.

I'm about to leave for home. Wish me luck.
It's difficult to imagine how conditions could be any worse. The rivers are at risk of topping their newly built defences, the roads are gridlocked, and Northern Rail has disruption on 59 routes, all severe, so is advising passengers not to travel.
Thankfully, I'm on foot, and live on the side of a hill. I just have to get there!

You poor thing, londonpostie. And hope you get home, TallPaul. We much acknowledge our fellow Boarders' suffering.
I drove through a flooded bit of road today. Do you still have to do that thing of testing the breaks I was taught to do many years ago when learning to drive?

I work for a company who work with flooding and stuff, someone looked horrified the other week when I said i'd driven through a bit of flooded road and asked if they'd taught me nothing. I think so lynette, people have told me that. Have you made it back @tallpaul? londonpostie that sounds terrible, glad they got you sorted though. Surely it really should be Friday by now.

Ditto, but then I hadn't seen/heard any news or non-local weather forecast for a couple of days. So hoping our two members are OK now.

I'm pleased to report I made it home safe and sound, unlike some, who had to spend the night in the big out-of-town shopping centre. Downstream in Rotherham, the fire brigade had to rescue 100 by boat, and the concern has now switched to Doncaster, which is on red alert, meaning danger to life.

Feeling rather blue today - currently having some health issues, and god bless the NHS I have a scan in 10 days, but my anxiety is currently through the roof at the possible outcome of that scan (which may be very serious, or could on the other hand be nothing to worry about!) and I am struggling to bear the thought that it will be like this for the next 10 days...
Sorry, this seemed like the only place I could just vent.

Ah sorry to hear that @posterj - so much easier said than done to try not to worry. Hopefully there’s something that can take your mind off it a bit - an upcoming show, good friends/family? Fingers crossed for a positive outcome and either way, the best care from our wonderful NHS.

Thank you, much appreciated I saw Come From Away tonight, which always makes me feel uplifted (though the religious bit really got me tonight) and have Dear Evan Hansen later in the week - probably not the best theatre choices for my current mood in hindsight but c'est la vie (which is also the attitude I'm trying to have towards the health stuff)! I definitely have good family who I could call on if I decide I can't handle this on my own, so I know I'm lucky.
