Got to sit in a spitfire, sadly on the ground. On the basis that I bashed my glasses into the side of it leaning out of the cockpit to check if my tail fins were flapping (It is possible that this isn't quite the right terminology) it's probably just as well that I was stationary. Very excited.

Driving past East Midlands Airport last night at 8, there was an unmistakable roar as a Spitfire flew over us and disappeared into the distance. Magical. (There's one based at the airport, it's owned by Rolls Royce and used for displays)

I used to know someone who lived in Stanwell Moor, just off the end of Heathrow. That was not magical.

I used to know someone who lived in Stanwell Moor, just off the end of Heathrow. That was not magical. I was lucky (?) enough to do my teaching practice at Stanwell Secondary. Much aircraft noise - the playing fields were next to the perimeter fence of Heathrow - I also remember the school stopping lessons to watch the first scheduled passenger fight of concorde. We all downed pens and went on to the playground to watch; a welcome distraction for me trying to interest the 'O' level group in Britten's Peter Grimes.

I've just discovered that my newish next door neighbour is the daughter of a very well known 80's R&B singer! He had a few no.1 hits both here and in USA. Not only that but he's still touring today and his daughter is one of his backing singers!

...recovering from a crazy week of musicals in the dazzling WE.My daughter summed the week up by saying how lucky we all are to have such an amazing choice of fab musicals on our door-step!

Revelling in my decision to catch Admissions in Richmond.
Chilling on the green, enjoying the sun, post show walk along the Thames, some pub grub and then on to the National to catch ANNA in the evening.

I don't want to start a new thread but I'm surprised no one else has commented on the sacking today of both Henry Hitchings and Fiona Mountford from the Evening Standard.

Have they been sacked, I assumed it was more cut backs and they're not being replaced? Disappointing, there won't be any point in reading a newspaper soon, theatre bits were always where I went.

Evening Standard now a total rag. Used to be interesting on art, books theatre and stuff. Ruined by the ego of a man who failed in politics and who is snarky about them as is trying to wipe up his mess. End of.

It's *interesting* that both use very similar, non-inflammatory language on Twitter, and describe their departure as "necessary cost-cutting".

Similar language infers a Settlement Agreement where there are legally binding disclosure rules offset by a better financial settlement than a standard redundancy deal.
Rarely read the Standard now since the change in editorial focus.

‘Change in editorial focus’ - masterly description of this cr*p that now passes as a newspaper.

Put my "bucket list" blog about my helicopter trip over London, now. Stupidly pleaded that I was able to upload material filmed using a VHS camcorder to YouTube, all by myself. Quite a job. Camcorder to DVD recorder. DVD ripped (when I finally found the correct free software to do it) to C drive. Register with Google so I can upload longer films to Youtube. Finally, upload. And it worked! If there is a quicker way to do it, please don't depress my by saying so. Thanks. Just had a read of the blog and watched the video footage. It looks an absolutely amazing experience to have had. Helicopters are definitely the way forward to beating the commuter traffic in and out of London. All you need now is your own heliport at Monkey Towers!

I am moving from Bristol to Liverpool this weekend, and tonight I said my official farewell to my workwife ruby . It was emotional, and it's finally sinking in this sh*t is actually happening.

Thanks david . It was sensational. I agree, and Monkeyrow for helicopters is under construction as we speak. Watching your video theatremonkey makes me regret the time way back in 1975 when I tuned down the opportunity to travel in a helicopter. I was working for a wellknown oil company and was involved in exploration. I was offered the chance to travel from Lowerstoft to a gas platform in the North Sea. I made excuses & didn't go.

I rocked a Scouse accent many years before I had even ever heard of Blood Brothers. Funnily enough, I was married to a Scouser, had family and friends in the area and all, but didn't hear of the show until after I had moved away from the area to Bristol. 😂 I'm just going home. 😀
