Medical student daughter away on a jolly with 3 other medics in eastern European country. 2AM. Phone pings. Are you up?
Me: NO!Her: I've had a piercing and it won't stop bleeding.Me: You had a piercing in a third world country? 😲👏Long pause. Then a screenshot of a google page on definitions of third world countries arrives and another with a page from Trip Advisor of some foreign parlour place with an average of 4.8 star reviews. Ok. Ok. I get the message. I ask for photo of offending piercing, wondering, with mounting trepidation, which body part will emerge onto my screen. Am somewhat taken aback (and relieved) when close-up of an ear arrives..... with a titchy bit of blood trickling down it. Me: Er...4 medics in a flat. Why you phone me?.
Her: You're my mummy and I'm bleeding!Me: Do they not have water in their taps in Czech AirB&Bs?🚰🚰🚰(I'm now left wondering where she's hidden the tattoo...)

New neighbours decided to have a party last night. Started 6.30pm until 3am - loud throbbing techno music. Feel like chucking a brick through their windows. Husband tried ringing the police - non emergency number but no answer just a recording to fill in an internet form. We don't have internet at home. Even our local council has no out of hours noise team - just fill in another internet form. Pissed off.

anita I got back from the theatre after midnight last night to find someone in the neighbourhood playing audible music, though fortunately it was at bit of a distance. I'm not sure if it finally stopped about 2am or if I was so tired I fell asleep with it still going. I cannot understand why people think it can possibly be acceptable to be playing music loudly even during the day, let alone at night.

The whole essential services only via internet pisses me off. 91 year old neighbour in tears on my doorstep on hold to the council for almost 3 hours - Twitter check reveals their lines are down. 78 year old neighbour on the other side trying to get help for his elderly wife with advanced dementia - Council gives email addresses for contacts, he went to the Council offices in person, was told someone would come and see him, waited 2 hours before he had to leave. A whole section of the population with limited access to services.

I used to have neighbours who'd play Toto's Africa over and over again at around 02:00. It wasn't every day, but it seemed to be the only song they had, or at least the only one they liked. Very strange.

How old is he? He must be getting on a bit. Seems a shame he can’t retire.

I’m surprised they haven't made a tv prog about him and his reminiscences about the stars.

Well my temp job decided after 8 months of “Yeah we’ll take you on” that in fact they’d just dump me today (which is the nature of the game but it’s a classic not what you did but the way you did it scenario but that’s another story)
My only regret is after 9 months as a receptionist in a snotty private hospital I will not get the satisfaction of saying to the asshat consultants (not all just a select handful) that “The girl on the desk” was Dr Girl on the desk to you thanks.

Commiserations, @emicardiff - but their loss and your gain, in experience and MATERIAL... Funny enough a lady who brought her dogs to visit said they would make interesting material too haha But indeed. A lifetime of material.

Anyway thanks all. Mods tell me off if this is against the rules for some reason, but as you never know who sees these things: emilygarside.com/cv/That's my CV/Website. I'm job hunting (again) if anyone scrolling through the other nonsense here has anyone they can share it with, or any job leads I'd be most grateful. I work hard and make a nice cup of tea.

Would saying you were a doctor while working in a hospital be a bit risky? I mean, what if they tried to rope you in to assist with the operations?! I've not seen Angels In America but I'd guess that it doesn't include detailed instrucions on how to perform surgery in the script!

I took delivery of a lovely new beside lamp today.
You may be interested to know 😴 that I have 59 spare bulbs in my Spare Bulb Cupboard. (Yes, I do have one. Don't judge.)
These 59 are composed of 14 different shapes and sizes. Pretty well stocked for all eventualities eh? Oh so smugetty smug.
So, I won't keep you in suspenders. I know you're all desperate to know what my pretty new lamp is like when lit?
I have no bloody idea. Nothing I possess fits.
Could someone bring back the 1950s please?

Bit of drama during my gym trip this morning, I get upstairs and see a bit of smoke in the car park (no unusual given the local yoofs and all) oh no it's actually a small car fire....which as they do quickly turned into a large one. Naturally the Personal Trainers running out with fire extinguishers quickly became a little redundant....and the fire brigade rocked up thankfully.

I think the fire brigade are my favourite emergency service. They always look so manly. Mind you, I've seen many a personal trainer that I'd have liked to see handling his fire extinguisher so it must have been a win-win situation all round.

Went to a branch of a well-known outdoor gear company to buy a "Thank You" present for my physio. I was wearing my new waterproof jacket which I had bought from a small independent shop while on holiday earlier this month. I'd wanted one for ages but they're very hard to find in the UK and so far as I knew there was only one stockist. Mine had been a bargain price so I'd assumed it was end-of-range before the new season's stock arrived but it was exactly what I'd long wanted so I nabbed it, happy that as well as keeping me warm and dry, I wouldn't see many others about.
Yesterday, to my surprise I found on prominent display in this chain store a whole rack of the identical jackets, advertised as a new range but at more than twice the price! I've no idea why mine was such a bargain but though it won't be the scarcity I thought, knowing I've saved so much is ample consolation.

Pondering my bank balance!!
Organising slots for all he announcements in the last week or so, early next year already looking busy
Booking this week - RII Almeida - Sweat & Berberian Donmar - American Clock and All My Sons Old Vic - All About Eve Noel Coward
As someone said in another post, Christmas is going to be austere this year, with the RSC opening the first week of October and the National bound to open its next booking window soon, the next few weeks are going to be expensive and wearing on my computers refresh button.
At least I will be suitably distracted whilst Brexit does it’s thing, initial impression, 2019 is beginning to look like a particularly vintage year.

Car/Gym update: no firemen today (alas) not even a PT now I think of it. Car now moved to a jaunty angle in the middle of the car park, the mattress that was on top next to it....we await and see if it ever moves or if we've got a new mascot.

I suspect @ryan may know something about the whereabouts of the firemen... who alternatively could of course be practising their emergency drill.

I’m going to go for RIi and All about Eve too. I usually phone. But I was wondering and your post about being distracted from Brexit has suggested, a show on the eve of Brexit Day similar to the live election show at the Donmar. I expect some enterprising little writer is already correcting the proofs.

I'm claiming a 2 for 1 because why not:
Yesterday: spent 7 hours in discussions regarding the company I'm chair for, and chairing a board meeting. Utterly exhausting work but utterly fulfilling work and actual progress. And badass women being badass. So that's all good. Plus great vegan curry, which was a side note but a welcome one.
Today: utterly crashed, cant' do right by anything or anyone. But also productive meeting with a collaborator. And me declaring 'I'm the Debra Messing to your Christian Borle' yes, the Smash addiction is real.
