I survived having to hold a 4 week old baby. Before anyone asks, yes the baby survived too!
Further to my post last Wednesday, we had a call from the burial ground today to say they moved a lot of earth & cleared undergrowth & found that my grandparents' grave had actually been missed by the dumped earth & was hiding in the undergrowth instead, which is a considerable relief.

Thoroughly enjoyed my very last minute decision to attend Beating the Retreat tonight. Love a bit of ceremonial pomp. Was lovely to catch up with Stasia too

My weed picking neighbour is in hospital still, being assessed, dislocated hip - can they manipulate it back, or operate ... Found out in the last hour his lovely wife died in the early hours of this morning. Their son had arranged a 24 hour nurse for her from last night, I helped him move a bed yesterday evening as the hospice were bringing a "special" bed for her for their downstairs bedroom. Jeez. Ta muchly for thoughts, weed picking neighbour is 90 -!- we had "drinks and nibbles" round his last month for his birthday, his wife then looked awful, told me she'd just had enough, so blessing for her, but heartbreaking to think he was just off to look at weeds and he'll never see her again... Their son called me yesterday afternoon, I said I was so sorry to hear about his Mum. Pause. How on earth had I found out?!? - A good friend of theirs two streets away had been told, who told the couple across the road (where my BEH (b@st@rd ex-husband) lives in their spare room) and they sent him a text and he sent me a text .. The son was aghast! His Dad doesn't know yet; as his Dad has to have an operation to reset the hip he didn't want to tell him until he'd come through the op. Didn't want Dad distressed going under the knife.

Oh, that's something I struggle with too in a MAJOR way, the rest of the office come over all maternal and start making strange coochy-coo noises ! Me I just here bemused.... Give me a dog on the other hand....
But yes I'm clearly missing the gene that tells you what to say/do when presented with tiny human folk and their mothers.
Howzabout a lil summit summit like this...?! postimg.org/image/o2lszi3m3/

Is it really a jaffa cake if it doesn't have orange in it? They grow lemons and limes in Jaffa, and they are also citrus fruits, so I guess so... May have to buy a few more packets to decide, though... You know it makes sense.....

Oh no, that is so tragic, not being able to say goodbye. I also feel really sorry for their son when he has to break the news to his father.

Booked for me and my dad to have lunch in Joe Allens on its last day before moving next month - not expecting to see a cavalcade of celebs in there on the day, but if there are then I hope they're of a higher calibre than the ones I've seen in there on previous occasions (Dean Gaffney, Cleo Rocos and Gyles Brandreth, but not together unfortunately)

I had fish and chips in a pub this lunchtime. It was served with a sheet of mock newspaper on the plate. The small print on the edge of the paper said "Made with natural greaseproof paper". What the hell is natural greaseproof paper? Does it grow on the greaseproof paper bush? Are there greaseproof paper mines? What possible meaning can this have?
On the way there I passed a peeling road sign with a non-standard plate that warned of "Pedestrian in road". Singular. I went round the corner and sure enough there he was: one pedestrian, in the road. That delighted me far more than it probably should have done.

That brings back some horrible memories. Sorry. That's bad of me after hearing about your lovely day. We've had to eat a whole box of Indian mangoes today. Ocado sent them verging on overripe and it's been such a sufferance ..... For anyone who's never tried them I can honestly say that Indian and Pakistani mangoes are what I imagine would be served in heaven on a fluffy cloud by Aidan Turner wearing nothing but a horse. Only available for 6 weeks every year.

Horribly hot today & more to come. I bought a small USB fan last week & got it out of the box for the first time today. I had a quick look at the leaflet enclosed & was bemused to see under safety instructions "Do not use in hot or damp conditions". It's a fan. When the hell are you going to use it other than in hot conditions???
