How was your day? (Random off topic chat)

Someone stabbed to death downstairs last night. MPS tent, lots of tape, people in those forensic suits and masks all over. I was watching The Bear and torch lights started playing on the living room wall (first floor). Didn't think too much of it and went to bed soon after. That was about 1am. Presumably the police.

Just a quiet Sunday.

Bit of a lie in.

Scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream for breakfast - or as I call it 'Celebrating my diabetes'.

1.5 hours of studying.

As my current scales told me yesterday I weighed 46.5kg, I ordered new ones which arrived today - 1.5kg lost in 10 days though. Very happy with that.

Both to prepare for my holiday and to get a healthier lifestyle, I got just under 6,500 steps in whilst it was raining.

Probably shouldn't mention I stopped for a roast dinner along the way.

Finished 'Wolf Hall' by Hilary Mantel - took me about a third of the book to get into her style of writing, but now hooked. 'Bring Up The Bodies' and 'The Mirror and The Light' are lined up already.

My body is somewhat protesting at the increased activity.

Just going to fit in more study before bed.

Just found out I passed my first module of my Open University course with 73%! I am so happy!

I indulged myself into something I've been wanting to study for years - English Literature and Creative Writing. Has absolutely no bearing on my current career in finance.  😂

The first two years (studying part-time) is a flight through all of the Arts and Humanities, so I've touched upon arts, music, history, Classical Studies, philosophy etc. 

My niece is a model and has recently done a campaign for Holland Cooper Clothing. Obviously I had a look at the website.

Now whenever I'm scrolling on other websites, my niece pops up on the adverts.

It's lovely to see her face pop up at random times of the day. 😀

After over a week of loud fireworks going off every night until about 1am I posted something on our local Facebook group at the weekend which was quite tongue in cheek asking what the celebration was that night. Leftover bonfire night, a late Diwali or an early NYE. I was astonished by the amount of abuse I got from People with someone even calling me a "snowflake". To be honest I didn't really know what that meant so Googled it and I thought it was quite offensive. I then deleted the post.
My anger is that people who decide to set off fireworks randomly at 1am are not showing consideration for others but, more importantly, its terrifying for all the pets and wildlife.
Have I over reacted?

Just heard two really loud booms, followed by loads of smaller ones. I’m at the point where I say just ban them. Still have organised displays by all means, but not sell them to the general public.

Reminds me of burning the midnight oil in my student days! Mind you, we didn’t have wordprocessors, t’internet or AI back then. Good luck 😉 

Real “first world problem” this, but I booked some tickets for a show last week. It has a few different principal casts, so I booked two consecutive performances in the hope of getting to see the one I wanted. One was near the front, one was down the back of the stalls as that was all that was left.

Kept checking the website and a return popped up, so phoned the box office to ask for a swap. First the guy couldn’t work out why I hadn’t booked two seats together, despite me saying they were for separate dates, then when the penny did drop he was like he couldn’t believe I’d booked to see the show twice.

I don’t know why, but it has ever so slightly annoyed me. It’s like when someone can’t believe you’ve gone to the theatre on your own. Maybe it’s me but I just don’t think customers should be made to feel weird about spending money with your business.

theatremiss I completely agree with you on the trains. I've already had to put up with frequent weekend rail replacement buses due to a new station being built for over a year, and while I try to avoid booking theatre on those weekends when possible it's not always possible. I'm now very fed up to find that over Christmas signalling-related engineering is happening not just between Christmas & New Year but extending until 5th January so I'm going to have to put up with rail replacement buses twice in the first week of January.

I don't have a car so the train is my only realistic option (as the last coach leaves Victoria earlier than I'd be able to get there after most evening performances, plus it takes 3 hours). What's really annoyed me for the last year is there are 2 train lines from Cambridge to London so usually at least one would be running but the new station is being built before the lines divide so engineering for it closes both lines.
