It's amazing how quickly a slow walker moves though, when you're about to weave through a gap you read a couple of metres back, and they suddenly decide they need to step sideways for whatever reason. If you're the slowest walker on a pavement, the most helpful thing you can do is be consistent in your movements. I don't care how slow you are if you're walking in a straight line, it's the zigzaggers and the veerers who throw off my stride. So true. Either that or the ones who stop dead immediately in front of you. I think as mobile phone usage has increased peoples awareness of their surroundings has gone in the opposite direction.

Had an audition this morning for a well-known show and the audition was on the stage of the show in question. It's not not unheard of, but not all that frequent, and certainly a first for me so that was a little bit cool and more than slightly surreal! Felt a bit overwhelmed afterwards, which sounds a bit silly when I'm typing it, but it was a cool experience. Then, my phone screen smashed so that's currently in for repair.
Swings and roundabouts.

Ooooo..I just love seeing someone coming towards me, head down and thoroughly engrossed in whatever is so important that they can't look where they're going - cos then I just keep going and walk right into them! I never apologise, just give them that 'well, it wasn't me walked into you, you walked into me' expression...
The funniest though was on a packed London street. A group of lads, the one in front messing around and walking backwards towards me. I could see what was going to happen and so could his mates, who took delight in not telling him. I just stopped and stood my ground. The look on his face when he collided with me and turned around was priceless!

Exactly, infofreako. And it's no use "accidentally winging them" as you go by either, now, as they grip 'em too tight to drop... Not always though, I had someone bump into me who dropped their phone and the screen broke, he then decided to tell me it was my fault and asked what I was going to do about it. I did end up walking off saying it wasn't my fault but I still felt guilty even though I'm sure it wasn't my fault. As to how my day is going, very lazy! Worked last night and after a week and a half of nights I'm on the transition back to working days so doing as little as possible today even though it's a beautiful day and I should do some more exploring of Paris.

In those cases, I find suddenly only being able to speak Latin helps a lot. Since I can speak another language fluently I need to remember to do that! I'm very good at doing it abroad though when people automatically think foreigners all speak English and want you to go on their tour/buy something...

Currently sitting in the Members Bar at the Royal Festival Hall before tonight's show by The Orb, various chill out tunes being played loudly on the level below - shame the weathers not that great - typical for the St. George's Day weekend: can't we have it moved to August?

I agree re "reading ahead" whether walking or driving (or indeed swimming, etc); the frustrations are firstly that many others fail to do this or even to have any awareness of the shared space and secondly that the faster you are, the more you have to weave in and out, overtake, dodge, etc. In fairness it should be the slowcoaches who have to get out of the way. I know there are slow drivers who hog lanes too but at least there's a recognised procedure when it comes to driving - and a law if necessary. No such thing for pedestrians! Yes, please can pavements be set up to have fast lanes & slow lanes! Almost every day when I'm dashing to & from the station I have to step into the road to get past clumps of slow-moving people clogging up the whole pavement. And stepping into the road is not very safe in bike-infested Cambridge.

Digressing for the important discussion: I found bags of Mini Eggs for 50p in Tesco.
And back to the topic at hand: yes to fast and slow lanes.
Also there's a cycle lane on one of the pavements I walk to work via, and frequently the same two ladies feel the need to veer towards me and ride on the pavement instead. This I feel is grounds for some well placed drawing pins.

Digressing for the important discussion: I found bags of Mini Eggs for 50p in Tesco. I wish I was as lucky! I popped into my local Tesco Express on my lunch break today seeking some out knowing they'd no doubt be discounted but couldn't find a single trace of Easter chocolate! I was quite sad...On the other hand, Clintons was desperately trying to sell off their Lindt strawberry and cream Easter egg at £1.50.

See when I was a kid the best part of Easter was a trip to Woolworths on Easter Monday to buy half price eggs. As nobody bought me Mini Eggs this year (woe is me) I went in search Easter Monday and was fruitless. But luckily the little Tesco by work clearly hasn't had a rush on them!

People that accuse Tom Stoppard and the like of being self-indulgent, oh man, until you've seen The Orb live, you have nothing to complain about 😳

My strategy is to tell them politely and firmly that I can neither speak nor understand so much as a single word of English. In English, of course. Confuses the hell out of them.

I've done that once in my smoking days. I was walking with a lit cigarette, some guy asked me if he can bum a cigarette from, to which I inhaled cigarette smoke and said "Sorry, I don't smoke". I think the guy experienced a cognitive dissonance.

On a train to Salisbury, where I will be combining sightseeing & theatregoing. A family just got on the train opposite me & both of the under-10 kids immediately got tablets out of their bags. When I was that age I'd get given a comic for train journeys. Feeling old!

She's 4 & has had one for over a year. - Now that makes me feel old.

I am heading into London right now - got out of a cousin's baby shower (what is it with baby showers these days?!) claiming I had theatre tickets booked when I didn't, so now need to find something (cheapish) to see to justify the fib. The TodayTix lottery for Dreamgirls has let me down! TKTS has disappointingly few actual discounts - at the moment it looks like being the David Baddiel thing or Half a Sixpence - unless anyone has a last-minute suggestion for me?

Lovely long soak in the bath, haircut (my hairdresser was asking about where best to sit on his next London theatre trip, so I left him with details of your most excellent website @theatremonkey), then a good catch up with my old Dad, amusing myself with his new gadget (an Amazon Echo to make living with his advanced AMD a bit easier)... "Alexa, play show tunes!"

My last-minute cheap Half a Sixpence ticket really paid off - what a fun show! Way more enjoyable than baby talk.

Well now I've seen it all re mobile phones. Three girls on horses, going along our single track lane, which whilst not exactly a major road is certainly well used, two of them with their noses in phones (the girls that is....not the horses...) If ever there was a place for having your wits about you and paying attention to traffic......... In other news...we've just had to catch a lamb that somehow managed to get into our garden from the next door field, and re-unite him with his mum! Blimey, they can't 'alf move!!
