I've always wanted Mrs Henderson Presents to become a musical, but when they eventually did it was garbage. So now I'm cautious about what I wish for.

Hercules! Death Becomes Her would be fabulous as well. As would Hocus Pocus. And, just to give someone a challenge, Jaws 😂 Oh yes, how could I forget Hocus Pocus? It's been on the list for years.

OK folks this is it - the biggest hit musical since Mamma Mia - wait for it -
LOVE ISLAND - THE MUSICAL. Featuring all your favourite Ibiza Anthems!
Plus original songs - "I gotta text", " Crack On" and the hit new ballad "I've been pied".
The audience will be able to vote off stage their least favourite couples during the show and of course for the winners.
Please forward the royalties to my bank account!

Recently I read 'Moondust: In Search of the Men who fell to earth' a great book about how the lives of the Apollo Astronauts who visited the moon were affected post-mission. Parts of it touched on the wives of the men and how they coped in the shadows etc. Browsing Amazon this morning for related books the following book jumped out at me and instantly 100 different ideas surged through my brain about presenting this story as a musical. Looking into it further it seems its been developed into a TV series, but I think the concept with some development could make a brilliant musical. Probably alone in this idea though.

I don't know the book / story, but you're not alone in the idea in doing something FRESH and ORIGINAL and this sounds interesting enough. I'm so tired of literally every random 80s and 90s movie being picked for adaptation and having some mediocre music thrown at it. Moulin Rouge, Showman or La La Land are at least musicals already, so a transition to the live stage makes sense, much like in ye olden days successful movie adaptations like The Sound of Music or West Side Story co-existed happily with their stage cousins. There was also a different (slightly better) Wuthering Heights musical in the 90s and a Jane Eyre musical that even played on Broadway for a time. Both were part of the big glut of wannabe Les Mis adaptations of literary classics with lots of whiny big ballads. Though considering the noisy pop that dominates these days, I'd almost wish for a return of these shows and their style of music.

viserys - Absolutely agree. So very tired of the clutter of 80s/90s movie adaptions (with the exception of Groundhog Day) and jukeboxes. To quote the amazon summary: As American astronauts were launched on death-defying missions, television cameras focused on the brave smiles of their wives. Overnight, these women were transformed from shy military spouses to American royalty: having tea with Jackie Kennedy, attending high society galas, and being featured on the cover of Life magazine. They quickly grew into fashion icons, donning sherbet-swirled Pucci dresses and lacquering their hair into extravagant rocket styles (to match their husbands' spaceships).Annie Glenn was the envy of the other wives, with her many magazine features; platinum-blonde bombshell Rene Carpenter was proclaimed JFK's favourite; homely Betty Grissom worried her husband was having affairs; Louise Shepard just wanted to be left alone to her card games; and licensed pilot Trudy Cooper arrived on base with a dirty secret. Together they rallied to form the Astronaut Wives Club, which has now turned into over 40 years of enduring friendship.Sexy and sophisticated, rich in melodrama, and set against the uniquely atmospheric backdrop of the Space Age, THE ASTRONAUTS' WIVES CLUB tells the real story behind some of the biggest heroes in American history, chronicling their romantic, domestic, and public dramas during the Mad Men era.Just reading that I can see so many scenes in my head. The whirlwind of going from nobody to icon overnight, the pressure of holding a house and family together whilst enduring the trauma of husband in space (will he come home alive?!). Many of the Astronauts had affairs whilst doing promotional tours post-mission, which obviously brings about drama and tension. And hell "Having Tea with Jacqueline Kennedy" is a song title in of itself!

Many years ago I saw a musical based on the Apollo missions. The story it told was great but unfortunately the lyrics were written by someone who hadn't quite grasped the idea that the natural stress of the words should fall on the natural stress of the music, and the result was that the lyrics came across as jarring and stilted.

However I am not hearing on this thread Mamma Mia - Here We Go Again. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again would have to be completely reworked to work as a stage musical, the film uses a lot of things that wouldn't really work on stage and also half the songs were already used in Mamma Mia! the stage musicals.

One I’ve thought recently that could work is a musical using Johnny Cash songs. I know there has already been a show with his music but that was more a revue/bio musical but I think it could work of it had a similar style and creation to girl from the north country. I just love his music and the stories he tells in them and not would love to see them in a bigger picture creating an even bigger tale.

I've always thought Moonstruck would make a great musical - perhaps even rework the La Boheme score the way the movie uses Musetta's Waltz. Others I'd like are A Room with a View and Cinema Paradiso.

Apologies for digging up an old thread, but this seemed like the best one to use as I didn't want to start a new one. But was reading this article from the Matilda movie press coverage with Matthew Warchus discussing adapting Pride into a musical (which has been rumoured for some time, but still very exciting), but also mentions the idea of turning E.T. The Extra Terrestrial into a musical which I also think could be quite wonderful and magical. www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/pride-musical-in-development-matthew-warchus_57515.htmlTwo films I would love to see on stage!

Oh god for the sake of my bank balance I almost hope they don't make Pride a musical...! One of my favourite films! There's already a song based on the same story in the Villages song cycle [https://youtu.be/LksPjSA03T4?t=660 - a bootleg, but one posted by the writer so hopefully allowed], but a full musical of the film would be lovely.

If anyone knows the film The Handmaiden, I've been thinking what an ideal source for a musical adaptation it would make ever since seeing the director's most recent film, Decision to Leave, a month ago.

Chocolat
Muppet Christmas Carol (or Muppets Take Manhattan)
ET (we need flying on bikes across stage and into audience)
Slumdog Millionaire
Patch Adams
Last Holiday
And…..
A Kylie or Madonna jukebox (ok not current material!)

Random I know (but if American Psycho can work so could anything), I just watched The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker on Netflix and it got me thinking there could be a Chicago esq musical to be made about it as commentary on modern media/celebrity/social media. Although the main story of Kai isn't that complex, the people that built him up, latched on to him to monetise him come off just as bad, which I don't think they realise.

I always thought The Breakfast Club would make a good musical.
Only 5 characters, each with a backstory- both personal and the reasons they each had been issued detention.
Could be a few solo, duets or group numbers, Minimal (if any) costume changes, a set -the library- on a revolve, accommodating the hallways the run down and the Principals office.
It could work.
