Quite a few I fancy there, Clint Dyer and Rafe Spall is a very exciting combination (for anybody interested, check out the very, very low budget British film Sus, three actors in a single room of which Dyer and Spall are two, examines racism by police in the 1970s) Of the others the only one I will definitaly book is All of Us, Francesa Martinez is a great stand up comic, interested to see her play.

Based on the excellent play of the same name from 1979 by Barrie Keeffe. Keeffe was one of the best dramatic chroniclers of the dark days of the seventies; times that were very much like now in a number of ways. |

Hmmmmm. Apparently this is not a theatre for ‘theatre aficianados’. So thank you very much. All that dosh I’ve chucked at you over the last forty years, can I have it back please~? Ha, I have every sympathy with getting young people into the NT. I’m v keen on the outreach, the entry pricing and studio plays etc. But saying that they won’t bother with the classics now unless rewritten to be relevant to today, then I am seriously miffed. We are like the 18th century lot who couldn’t face a sad ending to King Lear so they just rewrote it. Just like the only way a musical can get an grip on commercial backers is if it is a version of a hit movie, then are we only to see ‘versions’ of ‘classics’ from now on at the NT? In an interview I saw with him a couple of days ago, he said 2020/2021 is going to be more classics and less new stuff I am happy with new stuff. I am happy with classics. I am happy with classics being occasionally updated. I am not happy at classics being dismantled in the name of inclusivity when what is being peddled is just a dumbing-down exercise for audiences on whom the Gods of Theatre look down on. This is not inclusivity, it is arrogance and elitism pontificating at their perceived intellectual inferiors. The National was a significant beneficiary of my will. This has spurred me on to do what I should have done a long time ago and make arrangements for people starting off in theatre and those who work on shoestrings to benefit rather than a self-driven behemoth. |

For those wanting to book a talk, these are now on general sale for the new season. The price has gone up to £9 and no free tickets for the quiz for priority members this year.

So My Brilliant Friend is 4 books reduced to one play, but performed in two parts - the National are offering a discount 'On two-show days only combined tickets are available. These tickets offer a saving of up to £10.'. So far so good ..
I can't see anywhere what the running times are for Part 1 and then Part 2. Perhaps they are still re-working: Anyone?

londonpostie each part was about 2½ hours at Kingston, cannot imagine them being that different at the National as there is a lot to fit in.

I won't be able to get online when public booking opens and was thinking I'd been spared, except that I wouldn't mind a ticket for Hansard as the same thing happened last time - and Friday Rush is equally impossible. So I'll have to keep looking out for returns. Nevertheless, I'm not in the least regretting ceasing to be a Priority member as I've only wanted to see a handful of plays at the NT since my membership expired in November.

Relatively painless except for the price as two of the shows were for the Doorman, fortunately had some credit to reduce the strain and picked up a £15 ticket for Three Sisters.

Relatively easy here too - though I didn't log in until an hour after booking opened so I may have missed the rush. I did get a scary 'you have been timed out' message at the end of putting in my payment details but a quick check under the events section of my account showed it had gone through - and then a confirmation email came. Opted for restricted view £15 tickets for Antipodes which I may regret as I so loved John and so maybe should have splashed out a bit more. Also got £15 tickets for both parts of the Elena Ferrante (loved the books) and for the Three Sisters.

Got two show day for the Brilliant Friend, having adored it at Kingston. Went end of Row B in Stalls, as vaguely remember though on flat you don't have anyone in front of you

Despite an email warning "Please note we are anticipating strong demand for tomorrow’s Priority booking, so you may be required to queue slightly longer than usual. We thank you in advance for your patience." I was 390 in the queue so not a long wait after all.
Got £15 seats for Three Sisters and good Pit seats for Oceans. Thank goodness for the OAP discount (£60 reduced to £30) as most of the Pit seats are £60 with the front and rear rows at £40. Only 102 Pit seats on sale at the moment with no side seats. I cannot believe that this reduced capacity (half the number that are on sale for one of the other Pit shows) is the final availability as I would think the demand for Oceans tickets will be very high. Presumably they do not yet know the final Pit configuration. I hope this does not mean my good row J seats near the front become not such good seats after all!

I'm a bit puzzled what they thought would make demand higher than usual, It is one of the least commercial line ups I've ever seen at the National. I can only assume they thought the Neil Gaiman thing might generate some interest.
Anyway popped in and got cheap tickets for Hansard, will try for Three Sisters in the next booking period, booking December this far in advance is always a pain.

Certainly a pain free and quick ticket purchase this morning which was nice. A 2 play day for My Best Friend sorted for the end of the year at £35 row B stalls and most of the other stuff at a similar price. Given the 3 Sisters play a miss though.

I drew 262, 292, 1337 and 2074 at 8.30am, was in within 10 minutes and booked for "The Antipodes" with no problem. Not a good choice of prices for sure, loads of seats held back. Decided to go with the sides and save quite a lot over the facing seats option. I said this last booking period, but I was quite disappointed by what was available for some productions. I was also in at 2-hundred-and-something so would have had the widest number of seats available and I was struggling to find the seats I wanted to book. Instead of moaning a third time when this happens again, I'm going to have a go at the public booking this time and see what the selection is like, and if I find it easier to get what I want I'll cancel the membership and jump back in with the muggles. I appreciate the desire to not have members cream off every good deal, but if I don't feel I'm getting a good deal as a member then what's the point of paying the subscription? |

There didn’t seem to be a great selection this morning (presumably seats held back rather than sold). So I decided to wait for the public release in just over a week. Looking forward to Antipodes.

I booked The Antipodes, for the same trip as Lungs. Could be a Whovian's delight, if that were my thing. Only don't tell Mr Darvill I'm more interested in Hadley Fraser ..( come to think of it, he also popped up on Dr Who once!)

Received an error message saying couldn't verify purchase etc when hit buy button but have got email confirmation and in mynt events so worth checking if you get this. In surprisingly quickly.

If you're hitting 'buy' and keep getting the 'something has gone wrong please try again in a few minutes' error screen then it might be worth calling the NT. I had that happen a week or so ago, and it turned out that the first error put the money on hold on my card (like hotels I think). This meant that subsequent attempts were rejected as suspicious. On the positive side though it meant that the NT website saved the seats (and for longer than the ~30 mins booking time), so I could pick them up again when I called. |

I wasn't able to use a credit voucher (got "There was a problem trying to contact the ticketing system") so ended up paying by card rather than losing the £15 ticket I had sitting in my basket. Have mailed the NT to see if they can refund the credit card payment and take it off the voucher.
Edited to add ... they have responded saying they can refund the voucher balance to my card if I give them a call.

Forgot at first about booking, so got on the website a bit after it opened, but only a 5 minute wait. There was decent availability for The Antipodes which was the only thing I really wanted. Had a quick look at My Brilliant Friend, but it seemed super-expensive. Nothing else really grabbed me, but I've probably missed something.
