They should also release the cast recording with Barnes instead of Smith I for one am still unhappy that Natasha is billed as the understudy. As soon as Sheridan announced she would take time off, Natasha became her temporary replacement. I just think it's unfair to her She should at least get to record bonus tracks of People, DROMP and Music That Makes Me Dance

If it does happen, it would probably be a recording of the three most famous songs from the show; Greatest Star, People and Don't Rain On My Parade.

I guess until they know SS is never coming back, it's too expensive to redo all of the advertising etc. I think if SS was never coming back, then they would tell the public so people don't ask for refunds or go to the trouble of exchanging their tickets. They'd probably change the marketing too because on the theatre marquee it says 'Sheridan Smith' so anyone on the Strand sees it

They were smart at first by saying her break would be "2 to 4 weeks" and before they were up they announced the "no later than the week of July 11th". The trouble now is that they have rescheduled people who wanted rescheduling and they have put a confirmed week for her to be back by. So if she is not back this time round, there is gonna be an uproar from fans of hers and the box office are gonna have a meltdown.
But this is why I think she will be back. I don't think they would of put a date/week on her return and risk what could potentially be a massive backlash on the production and the company.

And everyone will say she's better than ever. And they will be blowing smoke up their own backsides.

She may well be coming back, but who knows how long for? Just because she has recovered from this episode of 'stress and exhaustion' doesn't mean she won't have another one when she comes under the immense pressure of being back on stage and everything that comes with that.
Sorry George (or anyone else) if you think I'm being pessimistic or a buzzkill but this is me being realistic

Whether she completes the run or if she is back for a month or so, at least we know she is trying. And if she doesn't come back, then she is simply not well enough to get back on that stage and that should be respected by everyone and everyone should support her in her struggles.

I can't see SS going for that with her "I am not good enough" issues.

I thoroughly agree with your analysis of the situation at hand regarding the amount of performances, the situation regarding the return etc... and I also agree that Natasha is award worthy. The only thing I disagree with is that I think Sheridan and Natasha are equal in performance value. They each possess something in their performance the other doesn't but both are incredible in their respective performances. The magic of theatre, we can all have different opinions.
Sheridan would be equally as deserving as Natasha, I agree with you. And I enjoyed reading what you wrote!

All the will she or wont she discussion in the press and elsewhere is great publicity for the show. Just look at this thread and Twitter. If Natasha had officially taken over the buzz would go down to a publicity lull very quickly

I can't see SS going for that with her "I am not good enough" issues. Yes but the character was never about singing or being the best at it. It was her quirkiness and humour. That is where Sheridan has the edge (and why wouldn't she. This has been her job for years!)

I just think it's unfair to her I personally feel Natasha should be nominated at the Olivier's. Her performance was something special, for me she deserves one. It will be interesting to see if she would be eligable and if those who make the cut went to see her in it.

You don't buy a recording for facial expressions In contrast, I'd say that the best cast recordings are those where you *do* get the character. Those actors who can convey a character through a song on a cast recording. Someone who can almost make you hear their facial expressions. Having seen SS at the Menier, I have no doubts that she is such an actor who could do that. Would still be very interested to hear Natasha as Brice, but I don't really have much desire to see the show again after front row at the Menier, SS or no SS! There was a piano-only bonus track of Memphis Lives in Me for an understudy on the Memphis OLC. Something similar could, and should, be done here, maybe with Don't Rain On My Parade or People.

I agree with this. I've been watching clips of Legally Blonde with Sheridan Smith but also some clips with the other Elles. Sheridan has that natural comedy that she comes across so funny in the show, she does this easily probably because she did lots of comedy TV shows. The other Elles have great voices and are amazing still but just don't have the natural comedy unlike Sheridan does. I believe this will probably be the same for Funny Girl too?

Yes, obviously, you need the characterisation, however Natasha has that too, whereas Sheridan really has a poor quality voice, especially for recording, even with her character coming through, it's not a voice for recording and, as I said Natasha does and then some and her characterisation through her voice is extraordinary, it really is something special.

Disagree on this, sheridan was just sheridan in legally blonde. She didnt get the California valley girl at all. She was just her usual goofy slightly loveable self. Pretty much everyother elle got the character much better.

If SS came back and completed the run could both of them qualify for an award for the same show? Has that ever happened? I don't think it has ever happened. According to the article kindly attached up the page, Natasha has done enough shows, as it stands Sheridan hasn't and if she came back on the date of the 11th and did every show, she may be eligible. However, should she return later, not complete the run, or Natasha does stand in on some shows and matinees, then she may not be able to qualify.

In my opinion, the performer that by the end of the run has done the most performances should be the one that is eligible.

So with Natasha having played more performances than Sheridan since bumping up to lead, you have to take your hat off to her stamina for not missing a single show in this run!
I've not seen the show yet so I don't know how big a sing it is, but still, 8 shows a week in a lead role and not a single one missed! Some other leading ladies could have a bit of what Natasha does for breakfast!

Can she be nominated, tho? if she were a replacement (as she should) I know she could, but as an understudy...?
