I agree that Sheridan will probably return, don't you lot? She needs time just to re boost and get back on track.
But if we were talking new casting, I think Nicole Schwinger would be very good in the role but I think Denise Van Outen is more likely.
However, I still need to see Sheridan in June!

Sheridan has two problems though - what her Dad's cancer does to her stress levels, and what her Dad's cancer does to him. She's not in control of either situation, or its timescale. Brave to try this long.

Maybe Emma Williams would consent to put some clothes on and take the role?
Needs to be a household name though really.

It needs to be someone quirky and not conventionally attractive. Jodie Prenger for example. - but she isn't a big enough name. Kerry Ellis? No. Natalie Casey? Maybe but still not big enough. Needs somone who can act better . Natalie Casey could act it, might be able to sing it, and would be quirky though. This Casey sounds great I'm all for "its not too late" but she might struggle with the opening scenes when Fanny is in pigtails.... shes about 50 for gawd's sake!

Some of the suggestions of who should replace her are actually hilarious!!!!
My own opinion would be Lea Michelle or Carley Stenson

For fantasy casting I'd like to hear Laura Pitt-Pulford do the role, after hearing her do a terrific rendition of People in concert last year, but again no use if they wanted a name.
I'd like to go & see Natasha Barnes again, as I thought she was fabulous at the Menier, but the Savoy prices are so high that I don't think I can afford to. Unless they allow people to return tickets & there is suddenly massive availability & hence discounts.

Hannah Waddingham could certainly perform it but is physically not what is described.... but what a powerhouse.

While I am not suggesting that Sheridan will not return, and I do hope that she recovers from her present difficulties, if we are speculating who could take over, Shoshana Bean (an ex- Elphaba in America) is appearing as Fanny Brice in the North Shore, Massachusetts production of Funny Girl which ends towards the end of June. She is a smart talking New Yorker with a phenomenal voice and would have no difficulty with the songs and acting in Funny Girl. She also has had some Bette Midler experience when she appeared recently in the musical Beaches.

Just had an email from ATG with that press release and saying it may possibly affect the performance I've booked. NO mention of the possibility of exchanging or refunding if I'm unhappy with seeing an understudy. What a crock of sh*t. Not impressed. What date were you booked for? I had a look and haven't had one yet for mid June. Bit of a strange thing to do, they are admitting they are in a difficult position, I've been to many shows where the understudy is on and you just get a note in the programme or something, no big warning email. I wonder what will happen though, as they set a marker in giving tickets when she was off before. In all honesty, I don't mind seeing Natasha, I hear she is amazing, plus it's always nice to see and understudy come good in a role. The hard graft and years of training are all there for them, they just need their moment to shine. I have to say, I may be in the minority, but I think Sheridan is a bit overrated. She has talent, sure, but I don't think she is the best out there. I think she must need this time off, however it will be useless unless she actually goes and gets some help, maybe medical or rehab or something, but not diving further into self destruction and twitter rants and arguments.

There are some lovely photos of Natasha outside the stage door, she looks so, so happy! There are also some lovely ones of her and Darius from last night outside too, and the other night, sharing hugs.
I wonder if Sheridan has impacted on the other cast members, maybe it has been very hard for them too. I haven't noticed her and Darius together after a performance at all and I haven't seen much support from the cast in way of wishing her well, offering support.
Maybe it's been a tough time for them as well.

I wonder what will happen though, as they set a marker in giving tickets when she was off before I do not find it strange that they announce the understudy will be on for (probably) the next 4 weeks. I can imagine people accept the understudy one night due to illness but if you get to the theatre thinking to see Sheridan Smith and get told it was announced three weeks ago she would not be on for a longer period there might be a lot of people being pissed off about not being informed. People are weird like that ?
