I just got the email too, Im not going until 8 June, but it falls a day or two before the end of the 4th week, so Im assuming they are just emailing everyone who has booked for shows within the next 4 weeks just incase shes not back before then.
Although I originally booked to see Sheridan, after seeing the rave reviews of Natasha Barnes, I dont mind who I see now.

Although I originally booked to see Sheridan, after seeing the rave reviews of Natasha Barnes, I dont mind who I see now. I think there probably should have been more than one email though. One for this week saying your performance 'is affected,' one for next week saying 'probably will be affected' and one for the following two weeks saying 'might be affected.' It doesn't really matter and at least they're finally taking action. I think, though, from what happened at the end of the Menier run, they should've taken pre-emotive steps and scheduling some days off for her to avoid this (hindsight and all that). Although maybe that would have upset her more.

I've neve seen Natacha in the role but I did hear some sound clips and she sounds like someone I'd enjoy listening to. However..
This is a star vehicle, and I think the box office will seriously bleed during get four weeks absence.
When Betty Buckley was forced out Sunset Boulevard for three months in London due to needing to have her appendix removed, Elaine Paige stepped in. When Elaine was on leave, Petula stepped in. When Petula was on leave, Rita stepped in. When Jonathan Groff was on leave from Hamilton (four weeks only?), Andrew Rennells stepped in. When Aaron Tveit had to leave Next to Normal to do the Catch Me If You Can tryout, Kyle Dean Massey was brought in.
What I'm saying is that a lot of producers tend to bring in temporary replacements for these big profile roles, instead of filling them with (very much qualified) understudies. It just seems to be industry best practice in these situations. Audiences feel that they are getting good replacements this way and that the producers have gone the extra mile to bring in high-caliber non-understudies in the role. This also gives producers the opportunity to bring in the press again and generate some coverage.
TBH I think I might finally want to see Funny Girl again now that Nat is in it and perhaps I can enjoy the songs being belted perfectly. But considering how fluid the situation was with this show, I think the producers could have lined someone up (or should) and just drop them in.

So do we reckon there is a plan B being formulated by the producers which covers the non-return of Sheridan?
Even if there isn't, I'll bet when she does come back she isn't doing all 8 shows a week.

I'm sure Lea Michele would chomp at the bit to come over here and do it and she would definitely sell tickets, but I don't think the people that want to see her would be the same people that wanted to see Sheridan... I love Sheridan but if Lea came over I'd be there every night! Lea!

^ Oh, God no. PLEASE let's not repeat the mistake and let's not cast any shiksa goddesses in this role ever again! Give this role to a talented Jewish girl as it should have been done from the start!
I don't like Lea Michelle but she is by far more appropriate for this! (
PS I take back what I said, I think this would have been fabulous if Lady Gaga played Fanny.

Kerry Ellis would be a good choice She's not funny though. She's excelled in several comedic roles such as Nancy in Oliver, and Fantine in Les Mis

It needs to be someone quirky and not conventionally attractive. Jodie Prenger for example. - but she isn't a big enough name. Kerry Ellis? No. Natalie Casey? Maybe but still not big enough.

Or we could wait until Sheridan's month off and see how she is feeling before we dream cast replacements?

La McCutcheon is practicing her Brooklyn accent as we speak.
It's not a comeback. It's a return . . . .

Nicole Scherzinger- according to ALW she can do anything...
I'd have loved to have seen Alison Jiear back in the day though.

No way. It will be a mamouth task getting a name to do it.. Let alone finding one suitable. They can't just put Claire Sweeney or Denise Van Outen in it. They will still be paying Sheridan and won't want to pay for a 'name' on top of that. And if they can run it with an understudy without audiences screaming for their money back, they will. I reckon they'll be looking for another name to see it through to October. A genuine question (and you seem to know these things Mr B) but won't the theatre /producers be insured against this type of thing?

Needs somone who can act better . Natalie Casey could act it, might be able to sing it, and would be quirky though. This Casey sounds great If you have heard Jessie Buckley sing it in the last few years she's superb - but she amy still be doing a TV series and possibly a film. This is an early version - teenage, and pre RADA.
