I just want to give Sheridan a big hug.

The Mirror are reporting that she's made her Twitter account private on Friday following the previous nights incident which we all know is rubbish. She did that months ago. Considering what a fodder for tabloids her twitter feed is, she should just delete her account altogether and forget about using it ever again.

Given that most of the output of the tabloids could generously be described as speculative fiction, I doubt that deleting her twitter account would make much difference.

To be fair, she's at the beginning of a long run, we should see how things are going in the next months before labelling her or anyone else unreliable.

Given that most of the output of the tabloids could generously be described as speculative fiction, I doubt that deleting her twitter account would make much difference. What I meant is that it seems it's how she first attracted unwanted attention of the rags like the DM - by tweeting about how upset she was with her boyfriend or ex-boyfriend or something equally silly and god-sent to tabloid journalists. Now they probably keep an eye on her in case of any similar outbursts, and that's perhaps why they so readily jumped on this incident which could have otherwise gone relatively unnoticed by the wider public.

I don't know the lady, but certainly there are plenty of "celebs" who court media attention. But it's like playing with a cobra- oh so easy to get bitten!
I'm not sure how interested she would be in a hug from a stranger.

No such thing as bad publicity unless you are Gerald Ratner!

Especially considering at the stage door she is usually the one instigating the hugging and kissing fans of her and the show.

No such thing as bad publicity unless you are Gerald Ratner! I would disagree with this behaviour in this industry. Especially theatre, you're never going to be booked easily if you are not reliable to perform all the shows. In the theatre a week of bad sale (or having to refund people their money or give them free tickets due to cancellation) can start to bring a production down.

The sad thing about this is that many people will read these articles and not take into account this is one show out of hundreds that she will have done by the end of the run (Menier and Savoy combined). Whether there is any element of truth or not, we are talking about British tabloids who notoriously over-exaggerate stories for the exact reaction this is getting. For the other 7 shows last week (and I'm sure for the rest of the run) she acted her socks off as she always does but I bet that won't make the front pages.
On a slight side note, I do hope she wins the BAFTA next weekend for The C Word.

At the end of the day the people will believe what they want and no amount of her denying it or the theatre stating reasons will change their minds once they've been made up! I'm going tonight so will report back on any slurring or stumbling ?

I'm not sure how interested she would be in a hug from a stranger. I was thinking of it as a virtual hug. I reckon they're probably OK. ;-)

It may just be one show but it's a huge deal. The star of the company is supposed to be the leader of the company - in this case it seems to be just the opposite. The star is the unreliable one. It puts enormous pressure on everybody else, onstage and off. To be drunk onstage is to betray your colleagues in the worst way. And, if the report is to be believed (I believe it) she has not yet apologized to those colleagues.

Exactly. I think there are people backstage who are very unhappy, and fed up of being either treated poorly by the star, or who are fed up of being told to cover things up for the 'star'. Hence they talked to the papers.
There are too many similar sounding reports for this not to be true, to what degree it's hard to say. I'm sure the papers may have embellished a bit.j
The producers or sheridan could easily have come out and said 'oh X piece of scenary broke' but no, they are being deliberately vague. And that speaks volumes.

Just to perk up the conversation and take it away from Sheridan's personal life, can we all just take a moment to appreciate how much Sheridan has barely aged in 20 years and has been a huge talent since she was 13/14 in this video as Tallulah in Bugsy Malone...

I can actually remember Sheridan as a little girl with The Daltons ...

I have to laugh at how tetchy people are over Sheridan, she clearly touches a nerve with some people. I have no real opinion about her, I don't think she's spectacular but equally I don't think she's bad. I do find it funny that our comments on here have been discussed on a Facbook theatre page where someone said: "Anyone who follows theatreboard will have seen vile speculative comments from "fans" about Sheridan Smith and Glenn Close. I hope the board is not going to be ruined by an unpleasant but highly vocal minority of members who seem to egg each other on to new levels of bile." Ed Crummack
Personally I find the comments on this board interesting, informative, witty, funny and at times scathing......just what I want from a theatre forum

Only difference, I am one of the people who think she is spectacular and one of the great, young British Actresses out there and hope she continues her success on stage and screen.

I am seriously bored of the media bashing of Sheridan all the time, especially when sources are so weak.
"She acted drunk in a scene" that she always acts drunk in being a good example.

So has she always acted drunk in that opening scene?
