God, I am commenting on the structure of two Sondheim shows today. I no longer recognise myself. Sondheim gets us all in the end, doll.

Weighing in on the 'disappointment at the understudy' thing. My heart sank too when I saw Rosalie wasn't on on Monday night. But not because of Jennifer (who I thought was fabulous), but because it means that we're also missing Tick Tock. Which I think is one of the best parts of the show. Such a shame we have to lose it whenever Rosalie isn't on.

Mel and Gavin almost cracked up during the jiu-jitsu scene too and the 'pot scene' is still the most boring part of the show and I wouldn't miss it a jot if it wasn't there. Still, it gave me a few moments to check my phone. I live dangerously. That's how I roll. God yes. In the same way that in real life, stoned people are really dull and annoying if you aren't stoned yourself, the pot scene really isn't interesting to watch at all. I really don't know why it even exists.

I saw this for my final time tonight and it was sheer perfection (and Rosalie was back). This show has grown so much since previews. Every phrase perfectly nuanced and acted, and all sung beautifully. A full house, plus a well-deserved SO.
I'd love for this to run longer, but I can't imagine it without this cast, whose strong camaraderie really comes across.
The stage door groupies, however, have become utterly terrifying...

You could trim the scene to just focus on stoned people having a chat about marriage But then you'd possibly loose the true beauty of the scene. For me, what I like about this scene is the demonstration of the Jenny/David relationship. Everything's going swimmingly, they're all having a good time and then suddenly as David and Bobbie get slightly too close, Jenny switches. Bobbie suggests another spliff and Jenny says no. David is stuck in the middle, conflicted but obligated by the relationship to follow Jenny. I've seen this happen so many times, Girl suddenly gets the hump, almost irrationally, and Man has to respond, tail between his legs, whilst the friend/outsider gets left. This is the real goal of the scene and it takes a while to establish but that conclusion needs setting up properly.

Its basically a 3 minute piece of staging/choreography where Bobbie (sat up in bed) see's various possible versions of her life flash before her eyes with different partners, including Theo, PJ and Andy. Life with a baby, life pregnant, etc. Lots of doubles used, finishing with Bobbie sat with 4 possible outcomes with her in her bedroom. It's genius and such a shame it gets omitted when Rosalie is off.

Well, it would be strange if Jennifer's life flashed before her eyes, and in all cases she was caucasian Haha, well, in one version of her alternate future she is black but thankfully the audience look past that

Didn't someone ask about it and they pointed out they didn't have enough people to do Tick Tock if they were down Rosalie?

Didn't someone ask about it and they pointed out they didn't have enough people to do Tick Tock if they were down Rosalie? It was me. I was thinking about this the other day... Last time I was there when Jennifer was on as Bobbie I asked staff after the show and was told it was down to not having enough females to stage it. However, this weekend Rosalie was on but Daisy was off and TickTock still happened. So I'm not sure the reason I was given is too applicable.
